Does anyone know if you need reservations for the positioning cruise??? It says on the site that you do but how the hell do you make reservations cause when you click on it takes you to the Inside Passage reservations and Tsawwassen isent even listed on there so how do you make one for Port Hardy to Tsawwassen?? They should have a separate reservation for that trip. I am just looking into it. It would be neat to take that trip. Anyone with me on this??? No I dont even know if I am going but it would be neat too. I'll have to see!

I will do this cruise, sometime in the next 5 years. Just to cruise up Georgia strait, go thru Seymour Narrows, and then up Johnstone would be fabulous (or in opposite direction, just as good).
You would want a full day of daylight. I don't know which direction is better for that: either northbound in May, or Southbound in October.
Now you've got me thinking about this trip....

Do you know if you need a reservation if you go as a foot passenger??? I am thinking about doing this. They dont have a northbound trip listed and John was also wondering that also, on the yahoo site if there was a northbound trip. Although I think I would prefer to go southbound in October. Is it really 13 hours as it says on the site cause the departure is 7:30 and gets into Tsawwassen at 8pm. If it gets into Tsawwassen at 8pm if I went as a foot passenger I could get back to Swartz Bay that night on the 9pm sailing.

It is recommended that you make a reservation. I made reservations a couple days ago for my son and I by phone! We have to be at the Port Hardy terminal by 6:30am (1 hr before departure). We will arrive in Tsawwassen at 8:30pm. I know the web site says 8:00, the guy on the phone said 8:30. My son and I will have to spend the night in Tsawwassen because we will miss the 8:15 ferry to Duke Point. We can hardly wait until it is Oct 1! ;D

Sandi, are you going as a foot passenger or are you taking a vehicle??? I would only take a vehicle if I was planning on staying over in Vancouver. I wonder how fast this trip fills up or if it is even a popular trip?? Anyone know if there is a northbound sailing this spring??? Just out of curiousity. I think I would still rather go on the south trip.

We are going as foot passengers (I don't drive). The guy I talked to on the phone told me that the Positioning Cruise is quite popular. Which is why reservations are recommended, especially if you want a cabin. You can call 1-888-BC Ferry for more info.

I guess I will have to decide what and if I am going to go and book in the next few weeks. We were thinking of taking the inside passage this summer but we might wait and take this cruise.

That sounds pretty cool, but I'd have to find time to drive up to Port Hardy first. It would be a good chance to get on the Queen of the North for us Vancouverites who don't want to drive down BC from Prince Rupert or turn around on the Boat.

That is awesome Karl! Are you taking a vehicle or walking on? Were there any cabins left? When I called they only had cabins with showers so I had to get one of those. My son has a BC Ferries Disabled Status I.D. Card so the fare for the 2 of us is $79. I think the regular fare is $75.75 for an adult. I am going to buy a 1GB memory card for my camera because I plan on taking lots of pictures! ;D

Well I never really asked about a cabin and I dont really think we would need one. We are taking a vehicle and probably staying over in Vancouver and will come back on Sunday. Maybe I can get a Queen of New West trip done and go back Duke Point that trip too. We'll see. Well we will probably drive up to Port Hardy that night, and get a hotel somewhere in Port Hardy unless we can stay with some people we know up there. I would like to stop also in Campbell River and Port Mc Neil on the way up and maybe I might get to see the QQ2.
Harbourlynx Kid, I am sure there are buses that go up to Port Hardy. Island Coach Lines operate from Victoria, Naniamo and Port Hardy.

Hey Karl, on your way to Port Hardy for the Postioning cruise, maybe you could pick me up @ Dep Bay. If I go anywhere on the Island besides Victoria, I usually take route 2 over. Getting to Nanaimo is not a problem for me, but getting to Port Hardy is.

Well actually we have a mini van so we could pick up a few people at Departure Bay on the way up. I have no idea where we are staying in Port Hardy though. I am sure there are hotels up there. But yeah, let me know.
