Does anyone know if she is going to be doing the HSB-DPB route on Sunday or Monday? Because on the schedule they have her listed doing extra sailings on that run on those days, but then you look on the RBI and there isn't anything that let's you know she's on that run that day. I'm hoping she is because it would be awesome to get a trip on her for a change of ferry on that route instead of Cow or Coq being exactly the same I don't even think I've been on any V-Class on that route, just the C-Class, except for the Pacificat Discovery, but that's not a V-Class obviously but the only single ender I've been on that route. ;D

She's running on an on-call crew from what I've heard. That was the story today.

When I was 6 days old I took the Queen of Burnaby over Route 2. She and the Queen of New West were long time runners of thr route. Also the Queen of Surrey/Queen of the North did a relativly short stint there.

NOW your talking MY era Dane I remember taking the Queen of Surrey(North) in 1974 on rt. 2 She looked TOTALLY different back then to what she does today. She had been brought over rather hastilly from Scandanavia to deal with the traffic crunch & was put immediately into service "as-is" so BC Ferries hadn't had time to customize her. Inside she really DID look like a cruise ship. You wanna talk about ship individuality, she looked NOTHING like the other ships on the inside. And ah-yes the days of the Burnaby class vessels doing rt 2, when you could actually find a SEAT & sit down & ENJOY a relaxing cruise to Nanaimo, without the sense of mass commuting that seems to pervade the route today. Those were the glory days for BC Ferries

My dad would go to the Island sometimes with his aunt as a kid, and occasionally on the home trip back to Vancouver, they would eat dinner in the Upper Deck Restaurant, when there was one on most of the V class and B class.

I managed to get on Queen of Esquimalt yesterday. It was a really interesting trip. It was the 3:45pm from Horseshoe Bay going to Nanaimo. I think we left on time but I'm not sure because I never got a chance to look at the Actual Departure Times Yesterday. But it was weird walking on to her again. I've gotten so used to being on the C-Class for the past few years. It of course had that very decieving Asbestos smell. I recorded the horn on my video camera and I'll post it maybe this weekend. I checked out the bottom car deck too, it was really hot and all you could smell was the diesel oil, so I was there for only 2 mins. I forgot how long it was supposed to take to get across. But it took till 6:00 to get into Nanaimo. It really was a long trip, it was over 2 hours. It was funny for the announcements. They only had the leaving the dock announcements and with the new tone and the lady, but as we were coming into Nanaimo, a lady came on, I think it was the Chief Steward and she was like "Ding Dong" and said we were nearing Nanaimo and I'm sure you guys no the rest. But it was obvious the Captain was skilled at driving the C-Class because he/she had to keep going back and forwards. But anyways no complaints, nice change. Looks like I'll be on Cow or Coq on Saturday though

They probably wasted 10 minutes turning around at the beginning and the end of the voyage.

I think the Esquimalt has worn out bearing for her forward prop. It's almost a feer instilling vibration when she goes tail-end first out of HSB.

I never noticed on the Esquimalt on the one time I took her to Langdale last fall, and I was standing at the front when she was backing out of HSB as well.

Go to about the 1/3 mark of the ship, that's where it'll be the worst... maybe it was a one time deal, or maybe they've even been replaced. I was on her in December.

The Queen of Asbestos is now sitting at Departure Bay, I wonder if they're going to de-rust her, or get rid of her asbestos ceilings.

Are you an engineer on the Esquimalt or an ERA?

The Ceilings are made of Asbestos, and you can still see the pipes on Deck 5. My brother had fun following pipes around the ship when she was replacing the Slurry Girl on route 3.

Are you an engineer on the Esquimalt or an ERA? No.... My parents work for BC Ferries. Whenever an extra ship ties up at Departure Bay, I get free reign of it (with my parents of course) ;D

right on, that is cool. Were you allowed to go up top??? That would be neat to roam around her all alone with no passengers! ;D

Next time I am on it, I will see if I could get some pictures of the cafeteria and public areas... (And yes, they are ALL empty)...
