Any one know? We heard tonight that since the Alberni has been in Langdale, they blown out a couple of clutches and screwed up the bow doors. Apparently she's being end for ended and headed to Deas for repairs on the 11th. The Surrey is being rushed out of refit. Any one heard anything?

I haven't heard anything yet. I'll check the BCF Service notices now.

she blew out the clutches again? geeze. those guys have to be careful with those engines. cause if you dont blow the clutches, then the gearox blow, and thats a multi Million dollar repair.

BCF needs to have their workers trained to handle the ships that run on thier route. The Langdale crew should be trained to handle all the C-Class ferries and the Esquimalt they should learn how the system works so there isn't any major problems that is if this is true

Problems like that are generally associated with age and a lack of maintenance... while you could be right I doubt it's the main culprit.

I think its because of the unique nature of the alberni, shes the only one of her kind in the world. with unique engines, hull, supe, and drivetrain setup

Well she'll be leaving on the 11th. What do you mean by end for ended? Like is she having to act like a V-Class and has to back out and turn around out of the dock at Langdale or Horeshoe Bay depending on whatever side was messed? If so, I remember when there was a problem like that I think and they took her out of servce from the DP-TSA run and when she came back they could only drive her by the 2nd side each way, so she had to back out and turn around out of Tsawwassen. But they eventually got it fixed some time later though. But it doesn't look like anything is wrong with her, according to the BCF's site all of her Departures are on time and there isn't any notice on the service notices saying Surrey is coming back early, well not yet anyway.

Doesn't the Alberni share the same hull design as all the other C-Class vessels?

The Crews at Departure Bay frequently complain about the condition of ships that are returned to them after been sent to Langdale. So if the Alberni is damaged it is no suprise. I do Know that she is running close to on time as I have been monitoring Ch 12 (156.600 mhz) on and off all day.

yeah. ill be god #3. in the next couple of posts. Ummm, yeah the alberni sits differently in the water than the other c class, and she steer different. relating to the unique problem of the repairs they did to her after she ran aground.

Just heard, Surrey coming out of refit and doing sea trials and CSI 16 certification on week-end.......Alberni going to Deas for clutch work.........Esquimalt running until the end of Monday night then delivered to Dep. Bay after unloading final trip by J-watch.....Alberni being delivered to Dep. Bay......Tuesday morning K -watch picking up Alberni at Dep. Bay and running over to Duke Pt. for scheduled sailing.......Last time we had to do this and we had an 03:15 start time......All tentative plans at this point.

I passed Deas today, and the Queen of Surrey was no longer in berth 2.
According to BC Ferries RBI, the Queen of Surrey will be in service starting with the 6:20 sailing from Langdale to Horseshoe Bay on Saturday.
Looks like she was doing her sea trials today.

The clutch on the Alberni was "thrown at speed" which I assume meens that the vessel's main drive was active when her direction was thrown over... I was asking some one from the HSB-DB crew.
