Mr Engineer, are you a part of the refit crew?? Who does the refits on the ships for example the Cumberland? Like the Cumberland I saw came into Horseshoe Bay after her refit and she had the refit crew onboard, are they actually BC Ferries people that do the refits, I thought it would be the people who work the drydocks.

Well, the drydock work, sandblasting and new paint ,and ships side valves are done by the shipyard. The high voltage eletrical breakers and switchboard are serviced by an outside electrical firm The main engine work and everything else is done by us, the ships engineers. and yes I am part of the refit crew, been on the Cumbie since she was new.

So is Cumbie actually in Esquimalt Drydock right now??? Cause I couldent see her in there today. I can usually see ferries from the Esquimalt lagoon but it looked like there was nothing there.

Hey Karl, do you live in the Western Communities? I live on the slope between the Lagoon and the gravel pit. I have a great view of Esquimalt Harbour and can see anything that goes in or out. Now that I've found this forum, I'll try to post whenever I see a ferry come in.

Hah! You posted just before I did. As far as I know, the Cumbie has already left. I can't see it anywhere in there.

Yes, I live out in the Metchosin area. About 10mins from the Lagoon. So you mean she was already in the drydock??? If that was the case then I must of missed her. We dont get too many ferries in the Esquimalt drydock lately. The last one I seen in there was the Skeena Queen.

Yes, I could see she was in the drydock. And yes, there haven't been many ferries in a while.

Ah, so that's what that is in there! It's hard to see the smaller ferries when they're in the drydock.

Yeah it is hard to tell if the smaller ferries are there especially when there in the drydock. Usually I can see them if there sitting in the water outside the drydock.

Karl, do you fly a plane? I'd like to know a little about how complex it really is to fly a plane. I just got this game called "X Plane," the most advanced flight simulator in the world. It requires 10 GB, 512 MB ram and 1000 Mhz, so my new computer can barely support it! It's a little off topic here but this game supposedly has the entire world's terrain with up to 18000 airports (Vancouver will be on there ;D), most of the planes in the world (including your favourite WestJets ) and a terrain for MARS. You can fly the space shuttle to/from space as well. But I'd really like to know: is it easy to fly?

Actually I dont even have a pilots license. Basically the only person in my family that flies is my mom who has the license. I always go up though. I pretty much know a bit about it. I could probably do take offs and land but I dont know alot about the radios, and control zones and all that other stuff that is important. which you would probably have to take a course and flying lesson which is what I would have to do.
We actually had a flight simulator before, darn it I cant remember what it was called, but it had alot of the airports, and different planes. I dont think it had airlines just the different types of planes but Vancouver Victoria was on there. Cool, so WestJet is on there, like WestJet simulator and for each airline?
Once you learn to fly and have been flying for years it is pretty easy. My mom said it's tough getting your license, but it's worth it. My mom and dad had our plane since 1980 or something, my whole life I have been flying. When I was a kid I went up all the time with my mom and dad and still do. Good now cause I can get lots of ariel shots of the ferries.

Yeah, there are 2 games like that.
I play X Plane too. Its a nice game. but i find some of the control confusing.
The other big one is Microsoft Flight Simulator. it has YVR, Pitt Meadows Airport, YXX, Naniamo. almost all of them. its nice. but yeah my comp handles them all

Anyone know if there is anything on flight positions?? What I mean by that is where you could track different airlines and their positions, where they are, and so on, sort of like the radar with the ferries that tell you where the ships are. Just thought that would be kind of cool if they had something like that.
Again a bit off topic!
