I will kick off with a vote for #2. It saddens me that the management of BCFS's is apparently so ashamed of their history.

i think they work well, all the coastal ships will operate on a coastal route (Mainland to Van Isle) and then the northern vessels will have northern names. i think it will work out (mainly because they are sticking with the K Class naming scheme)

Well, it seems we have mixed opinions. Could those of you who have voted elaborate?
I detest them due to their corporate naming scheme of carnival and other major ferry corporations. I do not feel they are unique and I feel that the standards of the old BCFC are declining. The names is just one part. I feel they could have been named much better by our group though we are considered a minority. Back when the Super C names were announced, a CKNW poll showed over half of around I believe a thousand or so participants did not like the names. Hahn just thinks "names are names" and he won't change his mind. Might I add this quote which our fellow member hornbyguy pointed out an interpetation of Hahn. "This is purely a marketing decision that we have every right to make, and you're wasting my time to even ask me about it." Names for marketing is not a great strategy. It is the destination and what the ships have to offer. Not the name. The name should be something that gives the ship character. Carnival naming scheme sounds more like propaganda IMHO. I believe I do not need to go further until someone challenges me.
My bottom line: The name sucks and Hahn is behind the cover.
Feel free to challenge me or give your opinions.

P-I - if you read my post more carefully, you'll see I wasn't actually quoting Hahn; I was giving my interpretation of the tenor of his remarks.

Then I stand corrected and thank you for pointing out that error.

Northern Discovery is good because... It is similar to a pacificat name! However, I imagine when the pacificats came out people didn't like that prefix either. It is the same thing with "Spirit", "Coastal" Northern" or any other names they come up with

I said they're Okay. They May not be the best names, but hey, I'd say it's better then the "Coastal" naming cause Northern is is more symbolic of the Northern Routes.

"Queen of" is for sure gone but it is too bad that "Spirit of" is gone as well. These new names are very plain, they should be powerful names like the Enterprise or Voyager. The good side is that these name do reflect our northern part of the province.

It will be interesting to see what prefix the intermediate vessels will have. Coastal is probably out since it's a "C" class prefix. Or is it? Problem with Spirit, is there is a "Spirit" class, and that might lead to some confusion.

They'll probably go with "Island" class or something banal like that.

I don't like them and I agree that it's sad that BCFS seems ashamed of its heritage and wants to distance itself from the past as much as possible. But I expect we'll get used to them.
One way or another we'll find a way to personalize their names like The Northern Adventure or Northern Adventurer. After all, ships are never just ships to us even though to D. Hahn names are just names.
But how do you all feel about the Super-C names? Or is that another poll?

Or just call them the 'Puddle Jumpers' and be done with it.

Problem with Spirit, is there is a "Spirit" class, and that might lead to some confusion. My vote is to rename the Spirit Class the Super V Class. There is as much in common between a V and a Spirit, as there is between a C and a Super C, so why not?

The super c class should be know as the first ship to be inaguarated. Ex. If the Coastal Renaissane is first launched it would be called the Renaissance Class. The V-Class is really the Vancouver Class and the C-Class is really the Coquitlam-Class or is it Cowichan-Class ?

The V Class are named after the Queen of Victoria, C Class are named after the Queen of Cowichan Probably the Super C's Will either Be the Coastal Class or the R Class (Rennaisance)
