...a land-based neighbour. A new stadium to be built on the downtown waterfront over the traintracks. Apparently, there will be little to no parking built for the stadium, partly because it will be located close to a large number of transit options (Westcoast Express, Skytrain, buses, SeaBus, and HarbourLynx - also the float planes and helicopters). So I'm guessing Harbourlynx will be putting together some packages with events in this new stadium. Should be good for helping HarbourLynx in the long-term.

I hope that this stadium happens......but I think zoning or some other City approval might derail this project.
I hope it happens. At least then when someone phones Harbourlynx asking for directions to the Vancouver terminal, Nick can just say "It's beside the soccer stadium".....

One VERY happy part of the soccer stadium story is that perhaps 30% of the cost will be paid by govt's (city, BC and Canada). 70% will be raised by private interests.
That's a refreshing change from USA experience in the past 20 years, where taxpayers have paid for all the gold-plated sports buildings.
I hope the Whitecaps stadium project goes ahead. It will enrich the waterfront while destroying nothing.
One feature appeals to me: It replicates the fabulous view from old Empire Stadium. One advantage of having South end-zone seats at Empire: when the BC Lions were losing, we could " ...lift up our eyes unto the hills..."
The view didn't change the score, but it made a thrashing by Saskatchewan seem less bitter.
The 'Caps stadium also continues a very good strategy: concentrate sports facilities downtown, close to transit and city amenities.
Vancouver, in all North America, may have the best concentration of sports arenas with this addition. Bravo!

to continue Brian's thought: "when the BC Lions were losing, we could " ...lift up our eyes unto the hills..."
"from wence commeth our help?"
Perhaps from Jerry Tagge and Jim Young?
Brian's correct: the new stadium would have some super views. Strong Skier could watch games for free with a telescope from North Shore......

I can't wait to see a concert at the new stadium. I could go for a Dave Matthews Band concert with the sun setting to the west and DMB going into a 25 minute jam session. That's a little slice of heaven right there.

You need to go see DMB at the Gorge, now that is an experience.

The one problem I have with this new stadium is that it will drastically change the view one sees as they walk to and from the Seabus/Harbourlynx terminal. I do not like the Idea of this stadium replacing the view of the tracks and points East.
I like looking out from the walkway and if this stadium is built the walk to will be boring if all you have to look at is a giant wall.
I have nothing against The New stadium, just build it somewhere else please. Do not take away the view.
Now I hear that there will be no Parking at the new stadium, Now where do you suppose people from the Suburbs park?
For these reasons If I had a vote I would say no to this stadium at the Current proposed location.

Now I hear that there will be no Parking at the new stadium, Now where do you suppose people from the Suburbs park? At a Park and Ride. Take the bus or skytrain. It will have excellent access, since so much converges at Waterfront.

Alex is right. Take transit like the rest of the world.
