Some Googling has resulted in me learning about an earlier coastal vessel, named "MV Nimpkish", just like our 1973 ferry that we've been talking about lately.
The "original" Nimpkish seems to have worked in Quatsino Sound, at Holberg, in the 1950's, transporting people to an RCAF camp. Here are some assorted pictures which I found on www.pinetreeline.org/photos/p21-59.html
Some other reseach has showed that this vessel here was actually known as "MV Nimpkish II", and was a navy vessel (looks about the right size for the Canadian Navy.....).
