I just added this slide to my collection: The slide has written on it "ferry Lake Okennogen 1956." I know that from reading the "retired fleet" section of John's website that this is where the Vesuvius Queen came from originally, but I wanted to post the photo and make sure I was correct in thinking this was her before filing the slide.

You are correct Steve, you have the "Lloyd Jones" prior to her been cut into pieces for transport to the coast and re-assembly. Nice shot!
Look in the "Bainbridge/Smokwa" thread for a photo I just acquired..

I don't think he has much control over what someone else wrote on the back of a slide 50 years ago...

...And he said the the back says "ferry Lake Okennogen 1956." Ummm...Yeah...So then why are you correcting him on HIS spelling when that's how it was spelt on the photo?

In the future I'll put (sic) behind it...but no, I did not spell it that way...and thought it was kind of amusing the way the photographer had.

Such hostility! One wouldn't expect that from a swan, would they? You DO have a shot of the Lloyd Jones; I did some (admittedly hasty) checking, and Kahloke's other two candidates just don't fit. The Lequime (pictured here: www.oacbs.ca/historical/1900s_37.jpg ), appearing here substantially modified, still shows her original superstructure forward of the passenger cabins and paddlewheel. You may note, the starboard deck supports are not the same as those of the Lloyd Jones. The Pendozi (pictured here: www.oacbs.ca/historical/1900s_35.jpg ), in addition to her upper deck supports being similar to the Lequime's rather than the Lloyd Jones', lacked the upper deck superstructure bestowed upon our future Vesuvius Queen. As I said, a hasty investigation, but... *shrugs* I thinks me's rights.

Yes, i'm sorry. I was wrong. The Pendozi and Lequime were sisters, the Lloyd Jones was different. Please forgive me!

If the power wasn't out here, I'd have corrected this PDQ! Thanks Fenklebaum for getting there in my absence! One look and you can easily tell it was the Lloyd Jones, just look at the Vesuvius (Ex Bowen) and the rest is shall we say...history. Such hostility indeed! Yes it is Okanagan, but we don't have to be so harsh about it, was it that much of a biggie?

Well, I'm glad that the "Okennogen" spelling was posted as it appeared on the old photo - it adds a bit to the antique character of the excellent rare pic.
Controversy's over, but I do think enclosing the written title in quotes was enough evidence that the spelling was [sic].
We'll be tolerant when our USA members use their accepted spelling: Okanogon.

With a tip of the cap to Kahlokanaganite: actually, we spell it 'Okanogan." Someone suggested that for a ferryboat name down here to appease the east-siders, but if it comes to that I'd go with the Canadian spelling to make pronunciation easier.

I actually prefer the Canadian spelling. It's a bit more evident how to pronounce it.
