Hi All
I have bee looking for pictures of sone of the seiners that my grandfauther was captain on, it is amazing how no record of local bc fish boats exist. Did a complete search of the BC maritime musiem archives and found almost nothing! If any one has pics of the following please forward them
East Isle West Isle Ivana Royal canadian Canadian #1
Old photos as the were built would be most helpfull.
Thanks ocenaeer77 oceaneer@earthlink.net

Good to hear from you again Oceaneer. I miss your engineering perspective regarding BC Ferries especially the Sonia, and now the Coastal's. Please feel free to jump in anytime.
Yes the old seiners have class, and West Isle was probably one of the better ones. Was she a BCP boat?

oceaneer:
These books might be possibilities, although I haven't read them-
Alan Haig-Brown/ Fishing For a Living- Harbour Publishing 1993 anecdotes, stories about fishing, illus.
Geoff Meggs & Duncan Stacey/ Cork Lines and Canning Lines: The Glory Years of Fishing on the West Coast- Douglas & McIntyre 1992 fishing from the 1860s to the 1950s, illus.
Duncan & Susan Stacey/ Salmonopolis: The Steveston Story- Harbour Publishing 1994 mostly about Steveston, illus.
oddly enough, the Save On Foods store near me has often had several books about our maritime history; I'll have to check there to see what they have now.

Hi Neal and YVR
Thanks for the replys
All the boast i listed were BCP boats.. I think they were all owned by the Ridell family of new west. I find it quite amazing how little is said about our coasts fishing heritage. We had some of the most amazing boats and were at the time quite advanced! (for the 1950s)
Neil thanks for the new book names I have fishing for a living but dont have the other ones so Amazon here we come!
Will try to keep up better on the fourm.. But am off to sea again in 2 weeks!
Thanks Ocenaeeer77
