I knew they weren't aloud in Active Pass. Wouldn't the driver (who just happened to be driving a ship full of coal) know that there would be a ferry running through there so it would be a tight fit?

This reminded me of a similar incident with the Nisqually back in the 1960's. The freighter smashed right into her galley in a thick fog. Fortunately no one was hurt. I'd forgotten about this photo I had...while not strictly Queen of Victoria related, it does show that well, ferries and freighters don't mix! Incidentally, if you know where to look, you can still see the scars from this accident on the Nisqually's flank. The passenger cabin and wheelhouse were replaced in the 80's, but her sides are still 1927 steel, save for where the portholes were added in '53.

Looks like it's made of wood.

Not entirely, but definatly mostly made of wood, covered with aluminium sheeting. What route did the Nisqually run on?
Back to the video, they missed a few accidents.
1. Queen of Alberni Running Aground and tipping over 2. Mill Bay running aground on a beach near Mill Bay Terminal

I'm surprised that they missed the Queen of Alberni incident, as that was pretty big, but I never heard about the Mill Bay running aground on a beach, I guess that one very minor.

The reason for the MB running aground was the captain fell asleep at the wheel! LOL It is on the Mill Bay's profile on the geocities website.

This was on the Kingston-Edmonds run.

I've seen the footage in training classes at WSF. I'd love to get a copy of the original film (it was someone's private 8-millimeter or super-8-millimeter film that they *happened* to be shooting) and have it cleaned and placed on DVD for posterity.
As a deck officer, I am really glad there wasn't a sound trip on that film. I would've been throwing up by the end of it. To see the QVic moving along at 14-15 knots ahead and suddenly be going about 6 knots sideways and backwards... ugh. Amazing that only, what, two people were killed? The old girl was just snakebit.
Come to think of it, I wonder whatever happened to the Sergei Yesenin?
Meanwhile, that photo of the Nisqually was taken in 1963 after being assaulted in the fog by a Chinese ex-Liberty ship named the "Taichung." Capt. Ted Boyes was the skipper. The cabin was made of wood, no aluminum sheeting--though the decks were covered in canvas and heavily painted to make them waterproof. And she was on the Edmonds-Kingston run at the time.

I have this collision on video tape If you have this collision on tape, were you the one who just so happened to be standing at Helen Point on Mayne Island that day with a "video" camera? I have this collision on tape too, in fact it's what is posted on youtube, by someone else who I don't even know.
