Hi gang,
I’m looking at taking the 10:45 Tsawwassen to Duke point tomorrow (Friday) and will have to take Translink from Lougheed to the terminal.
But what's annoying is bus 620 is scheduled to arrive at 10:40... Don’t know if I like cutting it that tight, but it’s almost a 2 hour ride from Lougheed as it is.
Anyone have experience with making or not making this connection?

Ticket sales end 10 mins before sailing so if you get there at 10:40pm you wont get on. At least I dont think so. Who know maybe being the last sailing you might get on but those stupid buses should have better times. What is the point of getting there like that late or even after the last sailing has left. Glad I dont take transit!

It's so rediculously and obviously because of some tiff or difference between Translink and BCFerries - in whatever incarnation of BC Ferries and Vancouver transit when it started, BCFS or BCFC and Translink or BCTransit - that I just have to laugh. ...The fact remains that Translink, according to the hourly service of that bus route at this time of year and that late, makes their passengers wait a few minutes less than an hour for a ferry that's never full, when they could quite easily make accomodations to adjust the schedule to get them there with appealing timing, and also not possibly take the bus the they assume would obviously connect with the last ferry the the Island from the mainland anywhere only to find out that they've missed the boat, for that matter.

The good thing about tomorrow is all the route 30 trips are cost saver trips, so a car and driver is only $25 each way. Forget 2 hours on the bus!

Hope you have a great trip. By the way, that's a neat pic of yours of the planes at snowy CYVR! The A340 and the new A380. I have both of these planes as add-ons on my MS Flight Sim 2004. Very fun and quite easy to fly. I almost passed out when rolling the A380 down the runway on my first takeoff on this huge plane (even though I'm running a sim, it's like flying the real thing)! Didn't crash (I use the ILS). Don't know if the A380 will land at our KSEA. Maybe someday.

Transit to Tsawwassen is rediculous. From Lougheed though, I'd take skytrain to Columbia Station, transfer to the train going to Surrey and get off at Scott Road, get on the bus to Ladner Exchange, and then transfer to the Tsawwassen bus. When I went one Friday afternoon, there was a Tsawwassen bus ready to pick us up, even though on the schedule it said we'd have to wait 20 minutes, so I don't know if they have an extra bus going back and forth during busy times. But I wouldn't count on it. If you time it right, it's not too bad, but it's definitely set to accommodate the Route 1 sailings and nothing else.
I've never found the Tsawwassen bus to be very good. Too many transfers and often crowded. Contrast that to Horseshoe Bay or Swartz Bay which have very excellent transit connections.

Well, I had a great trip, and I'm sure glad I took the car! Got to ride the Vancouver twice in one day :-) Question though... What’s with the blue window covers on all the car deck windows? I've never seen that on any other ship... Please excuse the crappy picture, cell phone camera was all I had.

The Esquimalt also has them on her upper car deck windows, but they are usually rolled up. I've never seen them down.

They're either down to keep the sea spray off of the vehicles, or they're being used as night covers. I also have never seen them down, while on a V-Class, so it could be some person thinking they're pretty cheeky, and pulled them down. I could be wrong on all of those suggestions though. We'll have to see what the BCF employees say.

Yeah, that's when I usually see them down. They were down on all of the windows the last time I saw the Queen of Victoria sitting in Departure Bay.

The C-Class ships have so many more windows - wonder why they've never covered them up. The Surrey lost alot of her windows as did her sisters during their MLU, but she still doesn't have any blue covers.
And while I'm at it - why were all the portholes covered over on the V's and the B's?

For the same reason the Surrey (and sisters) lost all their windows; fire.
If you were being lowered past the car deck in a lifeboat and there was any kind of explosion, the glass from the blown portholes might cause you harm! So they were removed (and the holes covered over) on the V's and B's.
They were also removed from the Tsawwassen as well.

The Queen of Vancouver still has the porthole on the lower car deck.

Hey Karl, The older ships were all built with small glass portholes on the car deck. With the new regs. these were all removed because they could explode and shatter glass everywhere during a fire. The Queen of Tsawwassen at Earls Cove in July, 2000. Notice the black portholes along the car deck: Have a good time in Edmonchuck!! B-r-r-r!!
