Hi guys,
I again need your advice for a trip over Christmas.
I am planning on taking the 1045pm boat from Duke Point to Tsawwassen on Christmas Eve night. Do you think this sailing will be worthy of a reservation even if I'm just showing up 20 minutes before the sailing (because of work commitments), or will it be super dead and I can coast right onto it before its departure time? Thanks!

Since Dec.24th is a Sunday, and not a friday, you should be ok.... because the heaviest traffic is likley at the start of most persons' time-off, which would be the Friday night.
That's my take.
Conclusion: No reservation required.

Well, to claim your reservation, you need to show up at the terminal 30 minutes before sailing time anyways, or else wave bye-bye to Mr. Reservation, so you don't have much of a choice.
And everything he said. Except I'll spell Likely the right way (<-- shown here.)
Trust me, it's not often you catch Mr. Horn here making a typo.

Ive bought 8 billion reservations on the 1045 sailing out of DP b/c it ussually means if Im taking that sailing I need to get home for some reason. Ive never actually needed the Res and I am always mad I got it.
I also travel every year on 24 Dec via ferry (but Rte 2) and would never worry about a Res late at night (7pm +)

I'm wondering the same for Christmas morning, probably the 10:30 out of Horseshoe Bay. Last year we took the 12:30 out of Horseshoe Bay on Christmas and had no trouble at all getting on without a reservation, but this year Christmas is Monday. I figure most people will still be with their families.

Or I could go for half price on Christmas eve! What I'm wondering is why do they have discounted sailings which are suppost to encourage people to travel at times when ferries are usually half-empty, then at thes same time put an extra sailing on (Queen of Esquimalt) between Horseshoe Bay and Nanaimo?

I got the coast saver sailing last night Friday at 9pm out of TSA which I dident think this Friday there was one of those sailings. Dont forget even though it's Christmas weekend route 30 the last sailing is still 5:45pm which is stupid I think during the Christmas weekend should be an exception as today will probably be busy! Every other route today is adding sailings and route 30 has less sailings. Just stupid!

So far the ferries seem to be running at below capacity today. I don't think it'll get busier tonight, but I could be wrong.

Who knows, with weather like this you're probably lucky to get aboard.

I saw the 4pm sailing from Swartz Bay to TSA the sign said it was only 28% full at 3:40 and there was only 1 line at Swartz Bay which wasent even full up. It would be a good night to travel tonight. I dont even think they need a 4pm and 6pm. The 5pm from TSA right now is only about 40%. What is Christmas morning like??? They should just scrap the 7am and 9am sailings Christmas morning same with the 6:30am and 8:30am sailings on route 2. I dont think many people be traveling early Christmas morning!

Well aparently everyone decided to travel Christmas Day rather than before Christmas as there is a POSS wait from TSA to Swartz Bay for the 11am and other mainland routes are running about 80% or so full.
