It's been a while since I walked on at Langdale. If I was to spend a few hours in the vicinity of the terminal, are there any parks or public/accessable beaches close by (as in within walking distance). Also, do you have to go through a "toll booth" as a passenger at Langdale or do you just walk on?

Well, I can't really help you with whether or not pubic areas are close by. But a few weeks ago when Karl, Scott and Myself did a Esquimalt/Surrey trip, we found a trail that leads from the Foot Passenger drop off loop, to the beach parallel to berth 1. This trail was pretty rugged, and isn't really something to drag the Wife and Kids along, unless you're in Ferry Photo mode.
Also, no you don't go through any sort of toll booth at Langdale as a walk-on. The fare you paid at Horseshoe Bay has your return trip covered. Although, you must grab a boarding pass, which are provided by machines near the gates that allow the walkons aboard the main car deck.

Oh, okay. Last time I walked on at Langdale, those machines were there but had bags over them... must have just been installed. I wondered what they were for!

Well, I can't really help you with whether or not pubic areas are close by. Well, they usually are.... somewhere between the knees and the elbows... I thought nineteen year old guys had a bloodhound-like instinct for such things.

Good one, Neil. I had to re-read Chris' post a few times, until the light-bulb turned on. ;D I'm not sure if Chris' unwillingness to help is because he doesn't want to get involved, or because he needs more information. Here's a source of some information:
