I want to travel from downtown Vancouver to downtown Seattle for a meeting so how do I do it and how long will it take me.
1. Air - need to travel out to Vancouver airport then fly to Seattle-Tacoma - which means a trip back into Seattle.
2. By road - in either a car - or by Bus - as I don't think a passenger train runs between the to cities?
3. By Sea ? Why isn't there a "Fast Ferry" Pax only from downtown Vancouver to downtown Seattle? Why is there only one from Victoria to Seattle- which doesn't help me - as I am in Vancouver.
So which is the best way and how long would it take and how much should I pay ? Plus I would like to return the same day and also do a bit of work - during the trip - so using my mobile phone(cell) and laptop - with a web link.
As you guys all want to be Ferry operators - how would I do it? the trip that is.....

There is a Train from Vancouver to Seattle. One awkward problem with the train though, it leaves Seattle at 7:45am and getting to Vancouver at 11:40am. But then doesn't Depart Vancouver to go back to Seattle until 6pm, and doesn't arrive until 9:55pm. Cost? 23-36 American Dollars (Depending on what time of year you plan to travel). But if you were to drive from Vancouver to Seattle, it takes about 3 hours I think it took us in July going down the I-5, and probably a tank of gas so that would probably cost like $60 Canadian (Depending on what type of vehicle you're driving). So it looks like it would be easier and faster to drive. I'm pretty sure there is cell phone coverage all the way down the I-5. But I don't know how you would be able to get connected to the web, unless you went wireless, but your asking the wrong person about internet connections anyways and I'm sure someone else on this forum could take over from there.

As for Sea, there is no fast ferry passenger only service from Vancouver to Seattle, but there is the Victoria Clipper, from Dowtown Victoria- Dowtown Seattle.

Cascade, why would there be a ferry running from Vancouver to Seattle, that is like saying, why not run a ferry service between Brentwood bay and Swartz bay.

Unless this ferry is fast, it would probably be a complete waste especially because of the border crossing.... Harry: not just that, it's also like saying why run a ferry from Mill Bay-Brentwood Bay?

Actually that ferry route is essential for when the malahat is closed, cyclists will protest for their ferry route.

Cyclists don't protest unless they're too weak to ride fully up the highway (which there are probably very few if none).

Vancouver and Seattle are both sea port cities. Often when you look at travel by either road or air - it sometimes is a lot quicker to travel by water, because it could be a shorter distance and maybe less hassle. Hence maybe a fast ferry to Seattle would work.
Then why have a train service - Vancouver to Seattle - or for that matter why have a flight ?

There used to be a passenger route between Seattle, Victoria Harbour and Downtown Vancouver. It didn't last too long, a year at most (during the 90's)

Thanks - Nick, Do you remember the name of the service / company and maybe the reason it is no longer with us?

Wasn't that the Royal Sealink? I believe it smashed into the Queen of Saanich back in the early 90's due to fog. I just managed to get that footage onto VHS as I was recording the Oak Bay grounding when the news was doing a recap on previous accidents. I should post it on the net now that I think of it...

I don't mean the "Cruise Ship" type of vessel - more like a Fast Ferry - like the Harbourlynx type - cat.
I was out a lot in the 90's and don't remember ever hearing or seeing anything like that operating between Seattle and Vancouver. The Victoria to Seattle route has been around for a few years - by different operators.

Yeah the Royal Sealink was a ship like Harbourlynx. I think it only went from Vancouver to Victoria though....I'll go dig up the footage I have of the crash...has eveybody seen the retro footage of the ferries I posted? If not, see it now because I'm going to delete it off that site within the next 2 hours.
