Should WSF have more minor vessels to run to the San Juan and Canadian gulf islands? That are like BCF ones... ? ??

What's with the question marks after the picture? I think this answer has to do with Population and commuters they don't need to I think so they got the huge boats with the commuters and all something like that

Anyone know the shortest crossing time in the Saun Jaun Islands??? It would have to be from Shaw Island to Orcas Island. I have flown over the Saun Jaun a number of times and it only looks like it is a 10 min crossing.

WSF has a vessel that runs Inter-Island, that takes care of a Shaw-Orcas route. They have talked about having a Anacortes/Lopez route but they are using the existing boats for that route right now. The Kaleetan does that during the summer (according to the schedule). It comes down to efficiency. It makes no sense to build some small boats to go between the islands when one can do it. WSF has basically two routes (besides Sidney) in the San Juans. Anacortes to Orcas, via Shaw, and Anacortes to Friday Harbor, via Lopez. Sometimes those are non-stops to the big islands. This makes it more efficient than running smaller boats to the smaller islands.

No I meant from Orcas to Shaw is only like 10mins. I know Anacortes to Lopez is 40 mins! So where are all the ships tied up for the night??? I know the Elwha is out of Friday Harbour, I thought the inter island ship also ties up at Friday Harbour too which now would be the Evergreen State. And the other two would be at Anacortes, am I right??

There are five boats in the San Juans in the summer. The Elwha is based out of Anacortes in the summer, and according to the vessel tracking (which I looked at at night), the Evergreen was the only boat tied up at Friday Harbor last night.

hmm I always thought the Elwha was out of Friday Harbour, so is she in the winter because I always thought she left Friday Harbour at 6am then did the 7:45 sailing to Sidney from Anacortes in the winter season!

WSF's goal has been to standardize the fleet with the new ships they are building. Makes it easy to replace ships when they need work, and costs less to train the crews. All WSF crews have to be certified on all vessels.
