Got a chance to ride the Chelan (currently subbing for the Issaquah on the Vashon route). The interior renovation was much more extensive than what was done on the other Issqauah Class ferries. Among the changes:
Different ceiling tiles (they look more like what is used on the jumbo mark II vessels).
Gallery serving area layout is completely different.
Wall paneling covering the entire length of the stairwells.
Doors at both car deck levels in each stairwell.
Sprinklers and smoke detectors.
What appears to be a duty-free shop in the area where the brochure rack used to be (next to the elevator).
Security cameras.
WSF didn't bother to have the entire vessel repainted (the center tunnel is a bit on the dirty side).

I noticed that the ship switched with the Issaquah

I read somewhere that WSF still had some work to do before the SOLAS upgrades were done. The Chelan has been filling in giving all the Issaquah's their yearly maintenance.

apparently the Issaquah just went back into service and the Chelan is heading for Pier 52 in Seattle currently that is where the, Hyak is cause I think she will be heading over for Todd tommorow.

The kitsap is going in for refit and is sitting at Bainbridge Island and the Chelan has taken over for her position.

You noted the Galley, I thought there was no food service, or is that only on certain routes?

You noted the Galley, I thought there was no food service, or is that only on certain routes? Food service has been restarted on most routes (I don't think it has been restarted on the Pt. Townsend-Keystone run). Currently there is no food service in the San Juans (had been restarted, but was stopped "until further notice"). One of the galley workers on the Vashon route hated the layout of the galley on the Chelan. -- LB

WSF is only running food service in the San Juans during the summer season.

Just because of one worker not liking the layout they cancel out the food service on that vessel?
