From the Official Alaska Marine Highway System® Site Press Release - March 29, 2006 Alaska Marine Highway System AMHS Announces Special Ketchikan Sailing (Ketchikan) – The Alaska Marine Highway System has announced a rare sailing around Revillagigedo Island. The M/V Malaspina will depart Ketchikan the morning of April 21st at 8 a.m. to sail down Behm Canal, pass by the beautiful Misty Fiords and return to Ketchikan via Behm Canal from the north. The ship will dock in Ketchikan at approximately 7 p.m. that night “This is really a unique sailing,’ said Capt. John Falvey, AMHS general manager. “It’s not often that we have a ship ready to sail that does not immediately go into scheduled service.” --------------------------------------------------------------------- You guys may want to consider that instead of the Albion ferry tour.

I just completed my first voyage in over 20 years on the "First Lady of the Alaska Marine Highway" MV Malaspina. This was Voyage #2755 South from Ketchikan to Bellingham. The vessel looked great and was shining from bow to stern. Of special interest was the "Bon Voyage" wall that is located just outside of the ship's bar. It was created during the spring of 1997 and contains the handprints of many of the ships crew over the years along with several items and documents from the history of the vessel. There was also the sad reminder that MV Malaspina would "likely be retired from service" following her last scheduled voyage on 27 October 1997. BUT here she is looking like the grand lady that she is and starting a new season of work almost 10 years after her first scheduled retirement. MV Malaspina is scheduled for major yard work and cabin updates during next winter. This will likely extend the service life of this great ferry for many more years!!!!!
