When the Tillikum was repainted just recently, numbers were painted on the large vertical structural beams on each side of the car deck. The numbering starts midship and goes as high as 72 or 76 (can't remember which). The Klahowya has these as well (not sure if they were added when she was repainted last year or when she renovated in 1995). So does the Rhododendron. I haven't seen these on any other WSF vessel. -- LB

That was a strangely worded qustion, however, I think it's to keep the birds off the beams.

Are those spikes sticking out of the beam that spans across the window?! Yep... probably to keep birds from perching on them. If you look carefully at the large pipe above the window, you'll see thin wire above it. WSF also uses the spikes and wires at the terminals (on the streetlights, roof edges on terminal buildings, and on the towers). -- LB
