Just wondering how MV Chelan is working out on the international route to Sydney, BC this summer. Is she running with a capacity load most of the time? I know that she has a slightly smaller capacity than MV Elwa and was wondering if this might be a problem. Do future plans call for running MV Chelan on the route during the fall/spring schedule and MV Elwa during the summer?

I know that she has a slightly smaller capacity than MV Elwa and was wondering if this might be a problem. Do future plans call for running MV Chelan on the route during the fall/spring schedule and MV Elwa during the summer? She's doing pretty well. Passengers tend to like the cabin better, but miss the upper deck. She's running at capacity on weekends and oh, I'd say close to 3/4 during the rest of the week. Word is now the Chelan will probably be used during the shoulder seasons (spring, fall) and the Elwha in the summer BUT it depends on how they revamp the schedule...there is a real problem using the Chelan for the domestic runs after the Sidney sailing in the fall and spring--she simply cannot haul the cars at the Anacortes terminal. This might be rectified if they assign the Kaleetan up here year round instead of the the Sealth for FWS. Talk from the crews I work with has changed from a very adament "she won't be back" to "all bets are off, she may be back full time, she may not" jsut within the last few weeks. If they do assign the Chelan up here full time, they're really going to have to rework the sailing schedules.
