I rode the bus over to West Seattle on Saturday and noticed that there is an Alaska ferry tied up among the containers on Harbor Island (north of the West Seattle Fwy). Anyone know which vessel this is?

I went to Seattle too and saw the Alaskan state ferry tied up next to the Cathlement. I have no idea what vessel it was.

It's the Malaspina. She is undergoing a major overhaul which is scheduled to be completed in April 2007.

I believe that MV Taku is to arrive in a few days for an overhaul and annual maintenance.

Thanks for the great photos ! She is a real beauty and definitely holds the title of "First Lady of the AMHS." She was scheduled for retirement in 1997, but is still going strong ten years later! Guess we can say that great ferryboats should just keep working. I am pleased that the State of Alaska is funding this major modernization and upkeep!!!
