That is one of the oddest little ferries I've ever seen. Have there ever been any other double ended ferries, in Washington or BC, with wheelhouses at different levels?

It's actually single ended (was originally double ended, but was converted to a single ended ferry). I'm guessing that the structure that the "higher on one end" wheelhouse was added on after the ferry was built.

I don't get it- how can they afford to have two vessels on hand when they're only using one at a time?

Because it's a nuisance having to lease the Hiyu from WSF when the Christine hangs it up. ;D They're a county gig--they don't have to be profitable.

It sold for slightly over $112,000. Is that pretty good for a 70 year old ferry?
