Very Nice Photos, Karl! Is it me or do the Clipper and the Express look almost the same from the side.

Yep, Curtis, it's just you. Now if only I could learn to distinguish which Victoria Clipper that is... I hear VC3 and VC4 on the radio; I don't know if they're still running VC2 or not. I haven't heard the original on the air in years.

The one in the photo is VC 1 and VC 5 are the only two that sail to Victoria. VC 5 I have been on before. Havent been on 1 yet. I remember one summer seeing a third one in Victoria.

I've never even heard of VC-5. The only ones I've heard on the radio (VTS Seattle) are 3 and 4 this year. Still, it doesn't mean that I'm in the loop, either.
A quick check of the Clipper website indicates that they do in fact still operate the original Victoria Clipper, plus the VC-3 and VC-4. I'm not sure where you're getting VC-5.

Victoria Clipper IV is the one that I have been on before that is the High Speed one. I dont really know those roman numerals so I thought that was number 5, lol! Number 3 I have also seen in Victoria. Number 1 is the one I have in my latest photo!

I dont really know those roman numerals so I thought that was number 5, lol! That's a great explanation. Made me chuckle, not at you, but at this circumstane of this misunderstanding. ;D I wonder why Roman numerals are still in use today in Western culture, but not any other alternative number systems ?

Clipper has the I (Seattle/Victoria), III (Seattle/Friday Harbor), IV (Seattle/Victoria), and the Orca Song (Everett/Friday Harbor)

The Cipper III is out of service AT LEAST until the 25th of this month due to engine issues.

Victoria Clipper currently operates the Victoria Clipper, Victoria Clipper III, and Victoria Clipper IV. There are notable differences between the I and IV, though they are of a similar size. The III is much shorter, and looks noticeably different from the others. The Victoria Clipper II was sold a number of years ago, and is currently operating as the "Tortola Fast Ferry" in the Virgin Islands. The III used to do the ferry service between Victoria and Seattle, but in recent years has been used both for whale watching and as a ferry between the US Naval bases at Everett and Bremerton (though I think she has stopped doing this run). Karl: Looking through your Ferries of Washington State section, there are two photos of a Victoria Express boat passing the Norwegian Star. This is the Victoria Express II. A few years ago they quietly put into service a second vessel, with very little information on their site. The blue ferry you listed as the San Juan Explorer is actually the Victoria Star II, which leaves Victoria at 5 pm. The San Juan Explorer is very similar, but has a different paint job, and never comes to Victoria. I found a photo of the SJE so you can see the slight difference: [ftp]http://www.russellshaw.net/photogallery/photos/sittingathedockofthequay.JPG[/ftp] There are also several other vessels in the San Juan Islands that are of the same type, further complicating matters. I'm not sure why there are so many of the exact same type in such a small region. ================= Moderator edit re wide-load photo: - "insert image" changed to "insert ftp link", as the photo was too wide. see rule: ferriesbc.proboards20.com/index.cgi?board=rrr&action=display&thread=1152081919 8a. Photos. We're going to start cracking down on oversized photos on the forum. They make threads hard to read, forcing viewers to constantly scroll to the right to finish each line. The moderators have decided to enforce a limit of 800x600 pixels. That's 800px wide and 600px tall (not as problematic... but you can't see much more than that on the screen at once, so what's the point?).

Thank you for that insight, lest69. I know too little about ferries of the area that serve both US and US / Canadian ports and am especially interested in learning more about these as well as actual WSF operations and vessels. It's interesting to note the high profile web address that Victoria San Juan Cruises snagged, www.whales.com
