You have to be at least 18 or 19 to enter the B.C Ferries workforce, because it is a union job.. I have always enjoyed ferries ever since I was little, both my parents still work for the ferries (my dad for over 30 years).. I am under the age to work at the ferries (17), however because of my parents, I help out on day 8's, or go on "tours" when the ships are tied up for the night.. My parents always say "Trust me, you DO NOT want to work for the ferries.", however I don't listen, because I have been fasinated by them for so long... The chain to reach the top has changed over the years, it almost always depends on seniority.. You have to work from the bottom, and need to take a lot of courses just to move a small step.. However, there are exeptions, sometimes B.C Ferries will hire (Captains for example) from other places such as navy's.. One captain, Tak Hyashi came from the Japanese Navy many years ago, now he is trained to work on almost all of the vessels in the fleet (including the ex. Pacificats).. Good luck in persuit of a carrer in B.C Ferries ....
