For those of you who follow the ferry industry you may have an interest in the following. When information was published on the ferry commissioners web site, the first choice for the replacement of QON was the Nissos Mykonos. This vessel was larger than the Sonia and probably closer to the specs for the new Northern Vessel. At the time, Cascade pointed out she was only available on a time charter. The resultant was we ended up with the #2 choice - the Sonia. On the web site attached is the launch of the Nissos Chios, the sister ship to the Nissos Mykonos. (click on the numbers 1 to 15) www.hellenicseaways.gr/index.asp?a_id=127&news_id=97 One has to wonder if BCF ever attempted to purchase the Chios while under construction. Then Incorporate our modifications during final build and have her sailing later this year. Personally one has to believe this option would have been better than what we have. Also the new Northern Vessel will cost around $199 million. I'm sure the Greeks paid no where near that amount for the Chios. Did BCF err in decision - - again???

Buying a newbuild from under someone is very expensive in most cases... often more than the actual costs involved. I know you hate everything BCFS does and stands for, but that's a near universal truth.

Nice ship though looks like the Northern Adventure and Northern Expedition Combined into one.

I have doubts that BCFS's was ever seriously interested in the Nissos Mykonos and wanted her, rather than the Sonia. The Nissos Mykonos is simply too big, and she would have also been very expensive to operate. On the other hand such a good looking ship would be a welcome sight on our coast.

It appear Cascade has villified my comments about the Nissos Mykonos. Lets see 60 M or 199M which one do we want? If it was you, which one would you purchase - remember YOU'RE paying for it!
