This is a website for an English artist, who does artwork and stories (children's book stories) on "Ferries". www.nicolajoannebolton.com/She's developing a children's cartoon called FERRIES! set in Portsmouth, featuring talking ships. She is also hoping to get this made into a Tv series someday. (this info from her userprofile on the forum for shipspotting.com). The "FERRIES!" cartoon info is on this page of her website: nicolajoannebolton.com/ferries.htm------------------------------------------------------ I've emailed her to introduce our forum to her, in case she's interested in our type of West Coast ferries. Check out her work.....

I beat her to it: Keep up the good work Nicola! Interestingly enough, we do in fact have a ferry over here called the Nicola... if you want to make that vessel a part of your cartoons.

Ahoy everyone! Firstly, apologies to Flugel Horn for not responding sooner. I did register here way back in January then had the misfortune to have my laptop die on me so when I got round to getting a new one I'd lost my username and password! Anyways I finally located this forum again and decided to update you all. After several years of trying, I have finally managed to get my ferry books published. They are on sale here: www.lulu.com/content/1080366www.lulu.com/content/1156667"Little Louie" Not a ferry, but a container ship this time...container ships need fans! I was compelled to produce a children's book about this type of ship after spending the summer working for Felixstowe port. www.lulu.com/content/818818www.lulu.com/content/1560362My latest book, "TERRIFIC" is more of a novel than a picture book. This story mixes fiction with actual historical events. It follows the adventures of a tramp steamer who befriends the RMS Mauretania and basically features famous ships of the time - Lusitania, Carpathia, Olympic and naturally, Titanic. This book was hard work but I like a challenge and it was satisfying to get a compliment from David Rostron (grandson of Captain Arthur Rostron) who read it. Still attempting to get a ferry-themed cartoon, either CGi or 2D developed for TV though and having no success yet, I'm afraid. UK companies haven't shown any interest in my ideas; the general response I get is that "ferries and ships are seen as boring and would not appeal to children" which I think is ridiculous. So I am now writing to companies in other countries. Well-known ships to make cameo appearances in the cartoon include the QM2: fc01.deviantart.com/fs24/f/2007/333/f/b/Queen_Mary_2_by_Ferrygirl.jpgThe ships are the main stars of course, but the two main human characters are Captain John Dory and Admiral Harda-Starboard: fc02.deviantart.com/fs20/f/2007/296/5/5/552d71d3ae694a97.jpgMy next ship themed book is still at the planning stage. I would be interested to hear from any ferry captains on here though, curious as to know what a typical day in the life of a captain entails, could be an idea for a new book? anyways it's great to be here!

Thanks for the reply, I'm glad that you found us again.
I like the "Admiral Harda Starboard" name. Good one.
I wish you the best of luck in finding that niche market that is out there. Clever is much better than trendy.
Cheers.

LOL, Gunther uses helium actually, no nasty hydrogen in modern airships, thankfully.

"He must be a modern blimp, not an old time german zepplin" He's a Zeppelin NT, one of the new generation of airships. These zeppelins offer pleasure flights in Germany, you can read about them here: www.zeppelintours.comI want to go on one soooo much but can't afford.....

I wonder if Ms. Bolton knows that BC has a cute little ferry named Nicola, all of 110' long. Owned by BC Ferries but currently leased to a First Nations band. This photo and info are from this site's proprietor, John Hammersmark's, "Ferry Terminal" site, listed on our front page. www.geocities.com/ferries_bc/profiles/obcf_nicola.html
