Just some random ferry-photos, which I found today when searching my collection. Thought, perhaps some of you might like to see them, too. [ftp]http://i6.tinypic.com/14lujgw.jpg[/ftp] The ship above is the Superstar Roma, an ex. Superfast ferry. You can see, the blue they painted the ship with didn´t last very long but was washed off to show the red again. When I saw it from a distance I first thought it´s a new "funky" livery Photo taken in port of Barcelona, Spain [ftp]http://i5.tinypic.com/14m3leb.jpg[/ftp] Athara, of the Italian state owned company Tirrenia in port of Genova [ftp]http://i5.tinypic.com/14m3o1s.jpg[/ftp] A Superfast-Ferry in port of Zeebrugge, Belgium, Superfast is a Greek operator who has also routes elsewhere in Europe. [ftp]http://i5.tinypic.com/14m3ped.jpg[/ftp] Primrose of Trans Europa Ferries in port of Ostend. In my opiniom one of the ugliest ships I have ever seen, well they have somewhen added a deck in between and added sponsons too, but it was once a beautiful ship. [ftp]http://i6.tinypic.com/14m3up2.jpg[/ftp] port of Portsmouth, one of the ex.Olau ferries seen too. These huge box-alike ships are pretty comfy, both of them are now sold to Italy, what a pity.. I enjoyed quite some crossings to Le Havre on both the Pride of Portsmouth and Pride of Le Havre [ftp]http://i6.tinypic.com/14m3ybr.jpg[/ftp] The Val de Loire, now the King of Scandinavia for DFDS Seaways, photo taken in Portsmouth, South England as well. [ftp]http://i5.tinypic.com/14m41so.jpg[/ftp] Oleander, ex. Pride of Free Enterprise. The ship is the result, if you invite 10 engineers to the pub, free beer for all and the task is, to design a ship together. Well.. looks like that. Isn´t a beauty but always interesting to look on. Photo taken in port of Ramsgate (Moderator edit: to change oversize pics from IMG to FTP)

After seeing a number of photos of the Oleander, it definately is on my list of wierdest looking ferries anywhere. It almost looks like it was cobbled together out of spare parts. Apparently, though, the TransEuropa boats look better inside than out. Of course, that wouldn't be hard.

Many of those ferries don't look so nice but the 3rd one is a Beaute. In the 5th one down that fast ferry looks like an oversized version of a Seabus

I thought now, it´s better to add some titles to the photos, I didn´t expect that some were courious for them - but ok, now you look and read a bit more info about them.

The last one looks like a spirit ship bow, with a truly screwed up back-half.

Thanks for those new pictures.
Re the ferries in those pics, I like #2 (Red funnel) and #4 (Wight link). I guess I just like smaller ferries..

I am surprised that you do find the small "Red Funnel" and "Wightlink" ferries beautiful. I personally find them ugly, and everytime I see them, I do think that, nothing against small vessels but can´t someone.. when designing them, think about, that they should please look aesthetic as well ? When I see them, I thin they were just purprose-built, they do the job, they are allright - but not more. But as I see now, it´s probably not a matter of that, but a matter of taste.
I personally find the "Normandie" of Brittany Ferries very beautiful. Indeed, one of the most beautiful ferries ever built, absolutely like the design of it´s bow, as well. It´s a nice ship, some interior-photos on my website, as well.

I think that I liked those 2 smaller ferries better, was because I'm more used to seeing smaller ferries, here on the Canadian west-coast. I see lots of small, open-deck ferries, and so I tend to like those. Re the larger ferries such as the Normandie, I'm just not used to such large, ocean-going ships.....and so I maybe don't like them as much. A matter of familiarity, I guess. By the way, this ferry here reminds me of a BC Ferry, "Queen of the Islands" Queen of the Islands. from www.mccord-museum.qc.ca/ListView/NVMA/27-1600.JPG

The ones by Brittany Ferries are nice. The others are pretty ugly.

Yes, the open deck ones look a bit similar to yours. You like stuff that looks familiar ? I do like stuff that does not look like anything I am used to. Therefore it was quite interesting for me to have a chance to travel on Washington State ferries last December. We don´t have them like that, especially not that old, and it was different, which made it more interesting though.
I think, it´s always interesting, what we are not used to, so much - that´s as well, why I decided to join your forum, it´s a different ferry-world so to say.

(MODERATOR: this is member P.Keenleyside's post, moved here from another thread) ===================== In the mean time, here's something really different. How about almost completely green ferries! These are two new ferries sailing across one of the two inlets in Portugal. These ferries are used in an inlet that is south of Portugal's capital, Lisbon. The green car deck: A green superstructure: and green wheelhouse: and car deck: Drive a green car aboard and try to find it when the ferry lands! Cheers! PK

Green Ferries.
We should bring them over here.
They would blend in nicely with the scenery on the coast.
The also look like they would fit in pretty well with the K Class ships, or the new I ship. They've got a very familiar look to them... interesting design.

Reminds me of that mashed peas baby food. If it was Mexico I would say it was a homage to guacamole
