I stumbled across this ferry in San Francisco harbour a couple weeks ago, at a berth, with "HYDE ST. PIER" written in the same place BC Ferries would write their terminal names. M/V EUREKA Any guesses as to the history of this vessel?

Eureka is part of the Hyde Street Pier historic ship collection. I toured it several years ago and went aboard Eureka as well as the tall ship there. It's quite fascinating. Here's a link I found on the ship: www.nps.gov/safr/historyculture/eureka-history.htm

Imagine a similar pier in Vancouver with the Princess Maggie, the Sidney, St. Roch stored indoors on the pier, and a decommissioned destroyer, submarine, a fishing trawler and a sailing vessel. Hmm. Probably too late but that would have been a great tourist destination for the hordes coming to the Olympics. And probably too late because too many vessels have disappeared or are too far gone.
* And mostly funded by the luxury condos built above the pier and jutting out into the harbour. Jimmy are you reading this?
