Yep, Mac is just being his typical self. Advertising on this site which will, once again, be a failed scheme to transfer members to his forum. And also copying our forum's (Scott's) name as the title. Oh well, Mac can do what he wants; it will not ruin this forum as much as he wants it to and he cannot even access ours because he has been banned due to threats. PS: don't ask him for a discount on one of his 2007 calenders; he's got to eat you know.

The content of the ad is un-ethical! "A place to chat about ferries of BC without the fighting and nagging." It is also bad marketing. You will not get members by bashing another forum.
Because of such unethical and bad marketing, I refuse to post on your forum, Mac, and I am going to remove my membership there.

Sorry about the John can't do anything about the ad, wasn't awake then. And I never made any threats to Doug. He banned me for what I might do not what I had done. Also the ad has now been changed. The change should propagate through soon. I apologize if I offended anyone with the ad.

You threatened to sabotage our forum Mac...and also wanted Scott's password to delete the forum. Did I mention that you wanted to plagiarize again by buying the domain www.bcferriesdiscussion.com?

That's not true doug. I never wanted Scotts password so I could delete the forum. Nor did I threaten to Sabotage your forum. Please stop turning everything I say into something I didn't say.

You lie Mac. Don't you think the admins of a forum will communicate? You think you know everything about forums...I guess you know very little about the people in them. Those three points I made are 100% true.

You and Scott were talking on "Skype"...and he was not and can not record. I think you are old enough (27) to admit what you said.

The ad doesn't show up on my computer at home (tried both IE & FireFox). I'm guessing the security software on my computer is blocking it.

The best way to attract members to a web forum, is to offer an excellent product.....but that's not enough. You also need the perfect crowd of users to create a winning atmosphere.
Just like with a restaurant or neighbourhood pub. You can have great product, great location, great prices....but unless you have a fun crowd of regular customers, you won't have a successful business. Unfortunately, you cannot purchase traffic. You have to offer a great product, and then hope that the people will show up. That's why so many restaurants fail in business.
Even if Mac's forum was technically better than any other, he would still require a bunch of people to voluntarily change their location of posting. And that's just something that no webmaster can control.
ps: I rarely see ads on this message board....maybe it's because of my Norton.

Here's a thought, if people come here don't like it, they will then have a link to an alternative forum on ferries.

Ultra Walker is right. Mac's site has some great advantages, but it lacks any "customers." I think there is potential for that site in the future, especially if Mac can get some quality members to frequently post to his forum. It seems like he has more time on his hands than I do... so perhaps with some good well-targetted advertising, talking to the right people, etc. he can get a good base to work from. Say he had some ferry employees, union members, retired workers, historians/politicians/media, on his forum, then I think people would visit it. Although he's free to pay for advertisment on this site (not something I control), I don't think it's all that well targetted. There may be one or two visitors to this site that don't already know about his forum and at least half of the members of this forum have a problem with Mac for whatever reasons.
