I don't know if it's been discussed before, but what do you think of the new llivery?
The pastel blue and white has been gone now for almost twenty years (they went navy blue, white, and red for Expo '86, remember?)...
I continue to be peeved that they retired the original fleet flag. I liked the old-school three-dimension dogwood flags they had on the funnels much more than the painted-on monstrocities that they've had in recent years. But I speak of past subjects... we're stuck with blue and white waves now.

Yes, I agree, the dogwood logo should have been preserved. This new livery is, in my opinion, worse than the old pastel blue and white. At least that one had some character, and the dogwood flag on the funnel (which was an actual separate steel piece welded to risers which protruded from the side of the funnel) proudly told the world that these fine ships were indeed British Columbia's very own. Not any more. Now, the ships have no character at all. Just compare the new look to the previous one as applied to the Spirit ships. The Spirits were real head turners with the old red, white, and blue colors, the wide blue stripe down the side, and that nice, big dogwood logo on the funnel. Sad, indeed.

I must say that the ferries never looked finer than when they were in their pastel blue colours. Apart from the aesthetic appeal of the look, they didn't look like promotional devices of the latest party to hold a majority in the legislature (red and blue, although I did like the colour scheme). As for the new livery... Well, let's just say that it's the worst out of the three (four, if you count the brief period in the beginning where the funnels lacked the dogwood flag). It lacks the symbol which for forty years reflected the purpose and the spirit of the fleet, as well as the ideology which founded it, as well as the trademark "V" at the bow.
I will not digress into the realm of the ideology which is now displayed in the new livery, as that would force me to describe, in detail, the various objects that Gordon Campbell should be in possession of, *and* where he should stick them.

I actually quite like the new livery of the ships. It looks new, and the logo is stylish. I belive that once in a while stuff like colour schemes need change and people get tired of the same thing after a while.

I am finally getting used to it.

Okay, but the dogwood logo should have remained. Getting rid of it is like if the Rolling Stones were to get rid of their tongue and lips logo. Change is good and necessary, but there are some things that should just be left alone.

I think it has been more than 2 years since she has been out of service. The last time I remember her being out of servive was when she had the hole in her hull a few years back, I can't remember the exact year, and she probably didn't get new paint back then either.

i think i heard either on this board or the yahoo group that the smaller vessels on the minor routes go in for refit and paint every 5 yrs. might explain some of the minor vessels still in the old colors.

You got to move with the times, the doqwood served her purpose for 40+ years and yes it looked good and yes the blue strip on the front should now go in a v shape but we are just going to have to live with it. Learn to like it, it looks new and refreshing. At least its not black and green like the WSF.

Yeah I agree, even though the Dogwood colors were neat back then, things change, and we have this new color scheme her for a long time. I do like the new colors though.

its pretty much the paint job on the side. but it can also deal with house flags, interiors etc....pretty much the paint that makes the ship distinctive.
