So It looks like Stephen Harper is our new Prime Minister, although it is a Conservative Minority, and that means that they will have to go to the NDP for support, so the Government will likely not last for a long time. Paul Martin is the official opposition leader.

Here's my prediction Harper gets elected in, Harper is in by minority, Harper Gets forced out next year, either Layton or Martin Gets Elected

The only reason Martin had a good reason to be "forced" out was because of the sponsorship scandal. Had the Liberals not done that, Martin would probably still be in office.

Well it will be interesting to see how all of this plays out. Paul Martin has just announced that he does not intend to run as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada in the next election. Plus it will be interesting to see if Harper keeps his promises, like lowering the GST to 5%. But he has never put me under the impression that he is a real scammer. He almost reminds me of another JFK.......

While some promises may be "forgotten" like all parties do, the GST lowering to 5% is guaranteed to happen...that is mainly what fueled the Conservatives for the campaign. As for Martin, I wouldn't doubt if he was actually getting fired.

Hm, I wonder where all that money is going to come from to cover that 5% GST...

Well you have to remember the federal government made a pretty large surplus this year (in the billions). Fortunately, they are spending it on the good of the people, and not some five star hotel and private jet for Mr. Martin. I wonder what the hell was going on here? ;D

That must be Paul Martin's very tiny bunker under the desk of the Monkey's desk.

Paul Martin is the official opposition leader. If they don't do stupid things, the BQ will vote with them. Stupid by this definition would encompass most of their social policy, however.

Beware Beware! Harper could end up like our own premier Lord Gord it's that or he runs out of money for everything he promised

Lord Gord had to make all those cuts to get our economy back to what it is. Gordon Campbell since has not made as many cuts. Harper already has a good economy to work with and I think he wants to keep it that way. Right now it is too early to tell what will happen with this new government. We can only hope that Harper satisfies Canadians.

two things I should give Stephen Harper credit for is
a. His defence platform, although fatally flawed in a few areas is the 'best' of all the parties, if you agree with defence spending and I do. I myself am waiting to be sworn into the Primary Reserves.
b. I'm hoping he'll increase payments to the debt. Canada could realistically be debt free in my lifetime if a gov't put their mind too it.
