Yesterday me and my friend rode our bikes over to Texada Island and rode around the north end of the island, walking and riding through the old mine ruins. Its pretty cool over there. On the way back we got to go in the two engine rooms of the North Island Princess. That was pretty neat. Its really loud too. We got shown around the engine room and the other places on that deck.

That's interesting. Where are the old mine ruins located? Is it private property? That would be interesting to see... as would the engine room on the NIP!

Karl - No photos, I didnt have any film in my camera.
John - You know the side of Blubber Bay where you get off the ferry, the ruins are on the other side of the bay all the way out to the point. To get over there you ride up from the ferry up past the gallery then turn left on BC Cement Company Rd and travel up there until you reach the mine office, then you turn left down the paved road and travel through the middle of the quarry until you get down to the water then you come up to a fork in the road. Right goes up the hill past old house foundations, I only went up a hundred feet or so but next time I go over I will probably go up the whole way. Turning left you come up to a gate but you just climb over it then you go a few hundred feet down the road then you end up at another fork. turn left, you come up to the old BC Cement Company plant, you can see it clearly from the ferry terminal. If you turn right you pass old foundations and old open pit mines until you get to the big old open pit mines at the point. There is also alot of little paths to the sides that I havent explored yet but theres propbsbly lots of neat stuff out there.
If your scared of snakes then dont do this ride in the summer, especialy if your going in the bush. Texada has lots of snakes so your gonna see a few in the ruins. I went with the same friend in the summer and we didnt see any.

You will easily find the BC Cement Company Road because theres a car wash there. When your going along the road to the point you will find old railway remains. There used to be a railway from the mines at the point to the dock at the cement company.
Oh I almost forgot. When we were there two days ago we saw a bunch of dolphins at the point. That made the trip even better!

I saw dolphins on the Inside Passage approaching Bear Cove. There was about 20 of them following the ferry into the harbour. I have it on tape. It was really cool. You guys probably did see dolphins. This shall cause some debate...

I was over there again on Thursday evening, but not to see old mine stuff. I was over there hanging out with friends that lived over there but after they left me and my bike riding friends rode our bikes and quickly showed one of my friends one of the old mines cause he's never been to Texada. On the ferry ride back, one of the crew members on the ferry told us that it was illegal to go over there.

Haha, I had a feeling that it was once you said you had to jump over a fence.

I didn't have to jump over a fence but I had to ride my bike right through the quarry.
