Could it be, that in case they start more wars in the Middle East - that they simply want to avoid that some of their economically important business - here port operations could fall in the hands of Arabs, which could result in some "trouble" sooner or later ?
Hey, instead of doing such bollocks they should rather stop messing on other people´s backyard and clean up their own place first ! That´s a rant I know..
But reading that the budget for military operations will be raised, and that some amounts for that will be taken from the budgets for education and health-care, as well other social matters really makes me thing - does that country care for their own people still ? I mean apart from when you need them to loose wars in other countries and leave a mess, which will result in more of the much - feared terrorism.
I just hope Canada will not follow this, or would Canada have any reason to do so ?

Canada has just had a change in Government, and so there is the possibility for Canada to start copying USA in some foreign/domestic policy issues.
However, the new Canadian Government only has a small minority in the House, and so it needs to rely on other parties in order to survive and pass legislation. That fact should keep the new government in balance and keep it from doing anything too stupid.

But, I do wonder, which profit could the Canadian state take from - if they do copy US politics ? After all, closing themselfes in did never help a country if you do look the results it caused. A good flow from/to the country has always done proof to be better - or what do you think ?

I agree: Isolationism & Protectionism is bad for a country's success. The entire world is a potential supplier and a potential sales market.
There's tricky trade issues, such as imbalances caused by low wages in a 3rd world country, and the ethics around "sweat shop labour" that can be used......but on the whole, I think that protectionism is bad.
Re the American Government, and some of the American Media: those institutions' philosophies seem to revolve around them seeing USA as the only important nation on earth, and so they see USA as "the only player" in the world, instead of just "one of the players". I find the Americacentric attitude to be quite disturbing. From NBA basketball champions being referred to as "World Champs", to archaic laws such as the Jones Act. ------------------------
I've likely got lots of logic holes in my above post, but I decided just to let some thoughts rip.
late edits to make it clear that I'm refering the USA Gov't & to their mainstream media, and not to the individual people themselves.
