Yes, I want lots more!!! The BC Coast requires more tourists, and this beautiful place deserves big ships sailing with the ferries! That is what makes the BC coast, the BC coast. I like the Carnival Spirit, as it is the biggest cruise ship I have seen, and the most beautiful one! Here it is: www.cruisemates.com/images/Carnival/spirit2med1.jpg

Well Victoria is getting 187 cruise ship visits this year which is up from last years total of 142 visits plus another 21 visits from the pocket cruise ships which adds up to a total of 209 cruise ships this year.
I have the Cruise Ship schedule for Victoria and the first one arrives April 29th from San Fransisco at 1pm then departs at 8pm for Vancouver. The first ship to arrive here is the Norwegian Wind.

In case you noticed, cruise ships are getting bigger every year. The Lions Gate Bridge is not. Do you see the problem here??

In Victoria NO, in Vancouver YES. Now, do you have any cost estimates to build a new bridge and take apart the old bridge? Along with what modifications you would have to do to the current roadway? It would take about 5 years for a bridge, you would have to cut down some of the trees in Stanley Park or go underground until the straightaway segment up to the bridge. Also, traffic flow in North Vancouver would be effected depending on where a new bridge was to be placed.

re the towns on the coast that are trying to get cruise-ships to stop and have the passengers come-ashore to the town:
- the cruise ship companies seem to be resorting to economic-blackmail. If a city doesn't build them a nice new pier (like Campbell River was "forced" to do), then the cruise-ship company will take their business to another coastal city.
It's the same concept as what happens in the USA with publicly-financed stadiums & arenas. The professional sports team blackmails it's current or new city into constructing & publicly-funding a new sports facility, or else the team with threaten to leave town.
Oh, to answer the poll question: yeah, I think more cruise ships that depart or visit BC Cities is good for the overall economy......as long as they don't blackmail the towns into building expensive facilities as a pre-condition.

Yeah, that's true, has anybody seen the Peace boat? I saw it on August 13th in Vancouver, it was just going out under Lions Gate Bridge, it looks like a party boat, and it only has 1 funnel.
Where do all the Cruises go, are there any trans-pacific cruises to Japan and China yet? I would like a type of Cruise that goes to London, England via the Atlantic and Panama canal.

The "Peace Boat" is the Topaz, she is a very old ship, I even have pictures of her from that same day. It is a waste of money to do a cruise from Vancouver to London, the only way you would be doing that is if a round the world cruise was going from Vancouver.
