Starting in April VIA Rail will begin operating a new schedule. The new schedule is being introduced to allow better connections with BC Ferries at Victoria, Nanaimo, and Courtenay/Comox.
Monday-Saturday the train will leave Victoria at 08:00 instead of 08:15, running 15 minutes earlier at all other flagstops and stations.
Sunday the train will leave Victoria at 10:00 instead of 12:00 arriving back in Victoria around 20:00 allowing passengers to connect with the 21:00 Ferry at Swartz Bay.

That's interesting! I don't recall there ever being a schedule change for a long time! I always remember hearing it come through Ladysmith at 10:20, on the dot, while I was still in school. Then hear it coming though at 14:00 on the dot every Sunday. I've only done a trip on the Dayliner once back in 95, which was just up to Courtney and back, and would actually like to make an effort to go again one day! Also I heard a bit of something to do with the E&N and the ICF today on CH, and trying to get access to the Port Alberni line, what was that about??

The ICF has reached a deal with the CPR and has aquired all CPR's E&N Railway land excluding the land grants and is working with RailAmerica to aquire their E&N Railway assets, they expect to have a deal with RailAmerica in 2 weeks. The ICF is shooting for a June start-up.

We have taken the dayliner a few times years ago when we were younger. It would be cool if it went all the way to Port Hardy!

Cheers to the ICF for finding a way to preserve a piece of transportation history that us ferry-fans know all too well is not a common occurance! Cheers! Graham
