We're at 29 users logged-onto this board at this instant, a new record.
It reminds me of a funeral, where lots of people with a common interest get together in 1 place, at the same time.
And that's exactly what this is for me.....the wake (pardon the pun) for our old friend

Actually the record now stands at 32. This is a trend we can expect for when any major incident with BCF occurs.

This amount just short by 2 of being double of the amount that came when Oak Bay ran aground. (17)

I know the whole story hasn't unravelled yet, but it's probably pretty safe to say that this is the worst "disaster" to hit BC Ferries in it's whole history, even if it's found that no one was hurt or killed.

Why is it that only negative things bring out the people to exchange ideas. When something great happens do we see the same amount of people talking about it ? I think that it's easier for a group to agree that something is a "bad thing"....easier than having everyone agree on a "good thing". So the "good thing celebration" is more subjective....some might say it's highly-hypothetical. The semi-privitisation of the service is an example: good thing or bad? depends on your POV. Actually, I thought that the large number of users on this board yesterday was in response to the "good thing" of Cascade returning to this board, after an absence of a few weeks........or perhaps it was the lure of Graham's ever-changing signature pic?

This work means actually riding a BC Ferries and trying to eat there food Also paid a booking fee .....but due to high winds the ferry was canceled - and no I didn't get a refund. For Harry we drove the Malahat - but hit snow. The weather was the worst I have seen for many years. oh, what route were you on, cascade? (if you don't mind me asking)

LOL, talk about being englishmen! True, we did have 32 users online because the Queen of the North sank, but when the Super C's arrive I'll bet we'll have 40 online.

Hopefully; that would be quite a good sign.

With John been a media star - maybe we should have a lot more members - forget about the Super C's, we should have around 40 people posting - but intelligent posts. I'm thinking this might just be a calm-after-the-storm, but posting certainly has dropped off again. (yes, I know the saying is '...before-the-storm' )

This is, quite frakly, surprising. An integral part of B.C. (forget BCFerries, this is bigger than that) has just been lost, and the extensive conversation >laugh< of late, is how we respond? ...I guess it's all part of the mourning process

Let John finish his new site: www.westcoastferries.ca "The Ferry Terminal" is way too big for geocities. Every time he gets too many users, his geocities site goes down, limiting acess to this forum.

Wow, that West Coast Ferries site is awesome, and has a bright future. The Queen of Alberni seems to be the star on most ferry webites' homepages (have you noticed?)
Well, we could attract more users by resorting to getting our message out there, like talking our friends into joining? Or if we were really greedy for users, John could always make users register to reply/post/create a thread of poll. In other words, eliminate the "Guest" feature all together.

Me either, well, we now have 143 members on the forum, a few of them in Washington, everybody else in BC, Alaska, England, Germany, and Alberta.

We don't have 143 members, some of the sign ups are multiple from people accidentally forgeting their passwords and have made new accounts, some of the new accounts made have not even been used which I think is a bit odd?

This is actually a regular occurence on alot of forums. If you look at Proboards Support, they have around 80,000 members, but there's still quite a sense of community considering the size of that forum.

Every now and then I go and weed out members who haven't posted in a long long time or never posted at all. As for all of us being arm chair captains, I'd have to disagree to a point! The majority of us on the board are probably under 30 and so we don't have a great amount of experience or knowledge compared to people who've worked on the ferries and on the coast for a long time. That's why we appreciate (I hope) those who have experience and have/do work on the ferries and we're glad you frequent the forums and set us straight sometimes.
