For the railfans on the forum here are some photos from work today. I was on the Lulu Island job that switches industries in Richmond and New West. In some of the pics you see an overpass, that's the Knight St. Bridge. community.webshots.com/album/548910471xREKto

Cool! Thanks This might be a silly question, but since your in the field (almost literally), I was curious to know if the railway between Lafarge Cement and the Lulu Island trestle is still active?

I know that the Arbutus street railway to Granville Island is no longer active. Because it leads to nowhere, unless there can be a budd-car run by Via Rail to relieve pressure from the 98 B-line?

Yes the Ewen Branch is still active. There's a pic there of the east end of the Junction with the Ewen Branch.

CN never operated the E&N, the E&N was run by Canadian Pacific. CN's rail line on the island is now the Galloping Goose trail.

Quinsam Teen... I'm dumbstruck. If you make one more claim to know anything about Vancouver's streetcar lines, I will paint myself green, dip both toes in chocolate sauce, and come screaming at you wielding two razor sharp hunting knives. I'm sorry, I fully expect to get some kind of moderator warning for trolling or whatever the current internet slang is, but I have to say this: Before you come up with any schemes, CHECK YOUR FACTS!
I work on the DHR down along False Creek during the summers. I'm a motorman on those trams. I've heard a lot of bullshi* schemes in my time, and running a Budd car along Arbutus is, by far, the bullshi**iest. Let us be charitable and not pay creedence to the trivial matters of practicality, COST, resources, equipment, infrastructure. Rather, let us focus our attentions on the mind blowing assertion that an hourly rail service along the Arbutus corridor would, and I quote, be "run by Via Rail to relieve pressure from the 98 B-line".
Huh.
If I could post several minutes of stunned, jaw dropped silence, believe you me, I would.
1- Via Rail can't even sustain the E&N, for reasons that are largely not their own fault. 2- Running dilapidated 50 year old equipment along a neglected rail line through one of the poshest districts of Vancouver in the hopes of 'Relieving pressure on the #98' smacks of... no, I'm sorry, if you can't figure this one out for yourself... I'll just jump off the nearest pier. 3- Three words: THE... CANADA... LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In all honesty, dear God...

I'd also like to point out that VIA Rail is not in the commuter rail business. VIA runs intercity trains only.
