When I travel I often like to break the long periods behind the wheel up by stopping to take train pictures. My recent southern trip was no exception. Here are a few pictures from that trip. Most were taken in the Thompson dry belt country between Ashcroft and Lytton. All photos taken on April 30th except as noted.


Basque Jct west of Ashcroft where CN & CP mainlines come together allowing exchange of traffic. Between this point and Vancouver all west bound trains use CN's tracks, and all east bound trains use CP's tracks. In the photo CP's track is the upper (closest) line.

BC Rail (CN) southbound freight in the Cariboo at Quesnel waiting for a northbound to clear the track - 9 May 2007. Yes, I know, CN now owns these trains and tracks, but they have not yet gotten around to repainting the BC Rail locomotives.

They (ex BCR power) might never get repainted. CN policy holds that unless the unit's piant is destroyed past recognition (read: wreck or fire) it will not be repainted. The only "exception" to this is heavy rebuilds.

lol! West Coast Express is an operating wholly-owned subsidiary of Translink, Greater Vancouver Transportation Authority; I consider that the definition of transit myself.

...But then again, ferries are "mass transportation" in a way to me, as flight travel is, but socially responsible "mass transit" defines our area's regional legally mandated provider, Translink.

lol, my bad, unfortunate wording on my part, I meant to get accross that trains - even with some transit pics pegged-on - seem good enough for being in this thread whether they're transit or not.
