For those who do not yet have a program to modify or edit your pictures, I have a strong suggestion. A program called GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is freely available on the web (legally). This program rivals Photoshop on many fronts including performance and features. This project is driven mostly by volunteers. Below I have included a screen shot of GIMP. www.gimp.org/ <main page> gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html <download page> Note that you will need to download the first file listed (approx 77megs), plus either the second or third file depending on your version of windows. Also, since there are many students on this forum. A suite similar to Microsoft Office is available for free (legally). This development is known as Open-Office and can be found below: Like GIMP, this project is also driven by volunteers. You can even save and open both Microsoft Word and Excel files. why.openoffice.org/ <main page> download.openoffice.org/common/instructions.html <download page>

I certainly understand that the main point of the forum is to discuss ferries. However, as I was venturing through the forum-flagship thread I ran across someone who was thanking another individual for adding some text to his/her picture because they could not afford Photoshop.
In short, the above message isn’t intended to be an advertisement for any particular piece of software. Rather, I prefer to look at it as a public service announcement letting everyone know that there are cheap photo edition options out there.
Some of our most active members are quite young, with little disposable income. I just want them to have the ability to touch up the photos they take without spending all their money on a hobby.

I have that soft where its good for editing, ether way you should NOT advertise programs on these forums. I'd like to counter that, and say a big "Thanks!" to #42 for bringing this free program to our attention. It will potentially be a big help for me in adding script to my photos. As for you Touy, I'd like to Advertise the forum's spell-check feature, for you. I suggest that you use it.

I agree with Flugel. If something is freely available online, I don't think it can be considered advertising to mention it, especially when it could be useful to members on the forum for forum-related activities like photo-sharing.
Trying to sell something on the forum is different. That's not allowed - by Proboards.

I've been using GIMP for a year and a half and it's been great. I can do everything I need to do with images and I've even made the background gradient on this board for the default skin using GIMP. I'm eventually going to make different buttons to phase out the remaining proboards default images used here. All using GIMP!
