Thanks very much for the pictures, they look spectacular. The one I quoted particularly reminds me of the time I went to visit the sink-hole on Pender Street.

Thanks very much for the pictures, they look spectacular. The one I quoted particularly reminds me of the time I went to visit the sink-hole on Pender Street. I remember that sink hole and the mess it made for Coast Mountain Bus Company (Translink), and that was only the first time recently that trolleys were stopped from going past downtown to Stanley Park, making diesel shuttles necessary, the next time was because of the wind storm relatively soon after, felling debris from trees onto the trolley wires. - I've uploaded 10 freshly edited pics of Canada Line construction from various stages of its development so far to my fotopic collection www.masstransport2010.fotopic.net/c945017.htmlLook for the time stamp below the thumbnails and pics to see at what point the construction progress was at

Rapid transit, despite the heavy burden of initial costs, is the only way to run a both efficient and attractive transit system, though not necessarily as the only backbone. I've recently been reminded of this by incorporating our current rapid transit system, SkyTrain, into a trip that I've often taken by a different route in the past. Relatively often I'll have reason to get to the Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody) and east and was as of only recently able to try a new routing, wich I attempted for the first time yesterday. Instead of routing by way of the bus from Downtown Vancouver to Coquitlam Station, after arriving there by way of my local bus, and waiting for and changing to another bus to get to Maple Ridge from there, I decided to instead take SkyTrain from downtown to Braid Station, between the Patullo / Sky Bridges and the Hwy. 1 / Port Mann Bridge, and swich to the new #791 express route to Maple Ridge via the Mary Hill Bypass and the Pitt River Bridge to Haney Place. By doing this, even with a 20 minute layover at Braid Station, I was able to cut down my travel time by a half hour and reduce transfers by one. Along the way I captured these 28 imgages of our SkyTrain system...

Including:
The western entrance to the Columbia Station ("cut and cover") Tunnel of the original SkyTrain line in New Westminster and one of the 2 at-grade access points to the Expo (original) Line www.masstransport2010.fotopic.net/p41583183.html
The former Bombardier, current holders of the patent for SkyTrain technology, assembly plant where almost all Mark II SkyTrain cars were built. This facility was built in a failed attempt to market Bombardier's SkyTrain technology to Asia and included a new rail overpass to access the original SkyTrain Operations and Maintenance Centre and the mainline, now abandoned with rails removed. A reliable source tells me that the overpass would have cost atleast $10000. www.masstransport2010.fotopic.net/p41583160.html
As well as a few photos of our West Coast Express commuter train from Mission and the rail corridor it travels on

Your West Coast Express uses the same equipment as the Go Train does out here. Was the supposed train that Canadian TV Show Train 48 used.

Your West Coast Express uses the same equipment as the Go Train does out here. Was the supposed train that Canadian TV Show Train 48 used. You got it, and it's a great design. There are, of course, many major North American centres that use the same design for their commuter rail operations; off the top of my head I can think of Los Angeles, even Alameda near San Francisco on a branch line from the mainline, but they're prevalent to say the least.

It was a trip of a lifetime and it was nice to end it off with a couple of ferry trips. I'll post a full trip report sometime soon.

I also saw 5 pods of Orca Whales, but never got any pics of them because they moved so fast.

You know you're a ferry freak when you cross the country have more photos from your ferry trip on the Northern Adventure than you do of Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec City, Montreal, and Niagara Falls combined:) Good job... beautiful pics! Looks like you had a fun trip!

50 New Mass Transportation Pics: www.masstransport2010.fotopic.net/variousMuch like my similar recent large upload of ferry pics, many of these are repeats but have been deleted from the gallery in the past due to space constraints that are no longer an issue.
