So seeing i am out of the country can any one fill me in on harpers plans for the new icebreakers.. i have heard that it changed from 3 heavy ships to 8 small ships.. do we know any thing else....
Shipyards?? build dates? or just spam?

8 ships, should be out to tender soon.... and they aren't really going to be ice breakers, they'll just have a heavier hull than most vessels limiting them to semi-Arctic duty.

8 slush breakers, tenders to be announced, but guaranteed to be built in Canada.

Don't be so critical, guys. Have faith in Harper; he has this all figured out. He's going to do everything he can to forestall any meaningful action to counteract global warming, the arctic will continue to heat up like it's doing, and in a while, we won't need anything more than the one metre ice breaking capability of these vessels. Steve sees the future. Icebreakers are passe.
