Carole Taylor, according to many watchers the most effective / best minister of the current BC "Liberal" government, calls it quits
BC premier confirms Finance Minister Carole Taylor won't run in 2009
VICTORIA - British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell says it will be hard to replace someone of Carole Taylor's talents.
Speaking with The Canadian Press from Hong Kong, where he is on a 12-day Asian trade mission, Campbell confirms Taylor will not seek re-election in 2009.
He says Taylor informed him of her decision before he left on Monday and told her caucus colleagues during a meeting the next day.
He could not comment on rumours Taylor is leaving to seek the mayor's chair in Vancouver and he downplayed the departure of the star cabinet minister, noting he only asks MLA's to sign on for four years, not eight.
Campbell says Taylor has made a tremendous contribution to government and to the people of B-C.
He says he has no intention of shuffling his cabinet and Taylor will remain as Finance Minister and continue with her preparations for the provincial budget, due in February.
