For those who don't speak Flugan, this thread is for you to submit your picture nominations for the forum's upcoming flagship for the month of March 2007: The MV Queen of the North.
We are honouring the memory of the Q-North for March, because of March 22, 2006.
Here's some guidelines: - they should be your own photos that you've taken yourself....or by a friend/relative. - Please post the picture with dimensions of 990x210, or full size. When linking full size pictures, just post a link to avoid side scrolling. (Jordan, if I got this wrong, please edit this & correct it).
Pictures of her in her Stena livery (in BC waters), in her Surrey getup and in her 'North time are welcome.

HA! This puts me out of the competition... AGAIN! Oh well. I would have seen the Queen of the North, if she hadn't sunk before my last year's ferry trip! Just a random question, Who is Miss April? (Just one person answer and move on )

No, I am not entering all of the following. I would just like forum members to help me short list one or two as finalists. All pics are from scanned slides or negatives except #7. Some of the older ones have suffered a colour change due to their age, especially #1. These are in chronological order with oldest pics at the top. Some are not of the specified 33x7 aspect ratio so may not be 'acceptable' anyways. Your comments would be appreciated. Thanks. All pics by JST aka Wet Coast Kid#1 #1A #2 #3 #4 #5 #6 #7

Jim:
I really like #1, #3 & #7.
#1 is extra great for the Surrey-factor. Was that #1 photo taken from the Burnaby or New West ? And that sailboat beind the bow looks kind of funny, as if it's a tent on the bow...

To be honest #6 I like cause I feel it captures the beauty of our beloved Queen of the North.

#1 or #6 has my vote so far. #3, #5, and #7 are a bit oversized.

#1 and #6 for me. Question was the forward and rear observation areas always that yellowish tint? Number seven seems to look bluish. In the worst of storms the forward one, while very narrow and with not much room, was a great place to stand. You had to run a gauntlet of rain and wind on the upper deck to get to it though. At night you never know what you would encounter in that area though - kind of like a lovers lane with a couple or two often making out.

The plexiglass windows in those locations were replaced just shortly before the last photo was taken. The old yellow tinted stuff was original, scratched up and getting hard to see through. I have checked other photos and can also confirm that the plexiglass in the stern solarium was also changed. PS - I have added another picture above (#1A).

I like #1 as a clear shot of the old Surrey and #2 because I still prefer the original color scheme over either of the later schemes... the QotN was one of the few that looked really sharp in the baby blue.

Hergfest has given his blessing (to me in a PM) to have his father's photo shown below entered into the Miss March photo contest. My only involvement here was to clean up the photo and crop it to the required 33 x 7 aspect ratio. More info on the background of this photo can be found on the Historical BCF photo thread on this board. Therefore here she is and is she not a true beauty? Hergfest photo

Thanks WetCoastKid, and Hergfest.
I like how your banner label even honours the ship's 2nd name. All in all, a good historical gem.

My opinion is to just use the Hergfest photo of the Surrey turning in Departure Bay.
- my 2 centon's worth.
