I recall that the Stena Danica was bought by BC Ferries in about 1976 and renamed the Queen of Surrey, briefly...then later renamed the Queen of the North when it started the PR route in 1979 or so. So what route(s) did the German-built"Queen of Surrey" serve between 1976-1978? I seem to remember it was on Horseshoe Bay-Dep. Bay, but I can't remember. Anyone know?

A little history of the Queen Of the North ex Queen of Surrey ex Stena Danica in 1974 and 1980 (From the BCF Archives)
1974:The MV Stena Danica, built in Germany,is purchased from Stena Lines to help ease excessive traffic demands. It is renamed Queen of Surrey and put into service on the popular Horseshoe Bay-Nanimo run.
1980:The Queen of the North, formerly Queen of Surrey starts service on the Inside passage run between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert.(This ship was formerly the Stena Danica the German-built vessel wich joined the BC Ferries fleet in 1974.)
So it was on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay run from 1974 to 1980

Just to let everyone know on this section there is an impersonator loose on these message boards. He seems to be going around using other peoples names like for example the last post on here PRQueenKid. We have had alot of goofing around in the Non BC Ferries section. I have emailed John and told him about this but havent heard back from him yet. I dont know which people are members on here but it is easy to tell if they are as they person signs on with there name as a guest. So yeah, just to let everyone know about this. It has really been annoying. Watch out for it.

I believe that the original Q-Surrey was only on Dep.Bay-HS.Bay for 1 year, as a short-term solution to a capacity problem.....until the Coquitlam & Cowichan were launched.
The ship then spent 4-5 years tied up at Deas....just tied up doing nothing.
Then it was refitted & put into northern service in 1980.
So it was gathering dust for quite some time, before it someone had an epiphany and put her up north.
(re the imposter posts on this board....just ignore, they can't hurt us.....and their posts are obvious. So no need to defend your posting-name on this board by posting an "it's not me!" message.....as it's obvious to tell the difference in posts from an authentic user, and an imposter user. I can spot an authentic Brian-Williams-post anyday by its intelligence & depth, and I can spot an authentic Royal-Caribbean post by the length of the run-on sentence and by the lack of punctuation.) We all know who each other is on this board, and so we know when it's a fake......so no need to to rebuttals.
