Did anyone notice on the BCF site in the news section that they're planning to contract out Comox-Powell River and Powell River-Texada? Thats weird, I never saw that coming at all and I'm sure nobody on here did either. That means no more Queen of Burnaby and North Island Princess as part of the BCF fleet anymore too. Anyways you guys read that and article and see what you all think.

I mentioned it on the Vessel Construction thread. Yes, it's only plans. It's not certain yet. But BC Ferries also proposes that the operater have lower fare, better maintenance on the vessel and terminals and a newer ship. Who is going to take it over if BC Ferries doesn't make money on it as it is?

Its kinda dum to contract off a route that holds overhight and gets people and families to the island for a good price its probably gonna be more if they contract PR-Comox out plus it'll be more money for those who live on Texada to get to PR and back almost every day

I really have mixed thoughts about this. It might be good because the company might provide a newer vessel and maintain it better, have better onboard services, and possibly run the route more efficiently. The fares could go either way, up or down. What might happen is still very much up in the air, this contract could be good or bad, depending on how the company runs things.

BCF needs new ferries for those routes Powell River gets the oldest ferries in the fleet they need to replace the ships built in the 60's that are no good anymore.
