Go to maps.google.ca and call up a Street View for Greater Vancouver, and tell me what you think.

The clarity has gotten pretty good now. I can almost make out my Grandpa standing in his backyard. ;D

Go to maps.google.ca and call up a Street View for Greater Vancouver, and tell me what you think. Well, since you asked... I think it's another irresistable toy that's so much fun that people will roll their eyes and say 'what an idiot' to anyone who even questions how much of our lives we're ceding to our computer monitors. In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley envisioned a drug called soma, which the government used to keep everyone entertained and stupified. I think he would recognize some of his vision in the internet, despite its pretensions of empowerment and universal access to knowledge. I think this latest entertainment is great, and I've already spent some time with it. I've no more willpower than the next person to resist such a powerful drug, and I'm looking forward to the day when, as in that new movie, I can have an avatar live my life for me, sparing me the inconvenience of doing it myself.

I just looked Deas up, and I'm thinking the imagery was taken sometime late April or early May. The Queens of Saanich, Vancouver and Prince Rupert are all present, but the only one that has been de-slugged is the Saanich. There is also a C-class present, but I can't tell which one. It might be the Oak Bay.

They went past my place in the summer, on a day when I wasn't called to work, as my truck is backed into the driveway.

At least 80% of North America's Road's have now been mapped, and now Google has introduced "Ski View", so far only on certain ski runs on Whistler/Blackcomb. They put a camera on a snowmobile and zoom down the mountain. Link to Map of Whistler

To dumb down the use of Google Street View for those of us who can't find the time to use it properly here is a cool tool which makes it really simple. www.vpike.com/ The link is safe, I tested it today.

This doesn't pertain to Google Streetview, but it is relevant. For those of you who like to use Google Earth, and have Panoramio Photos checked under the Geographic Web layer, I just recently signed up with Panoramio, and posted some more current photos of locations such as Departure Bay (pics from just a few weeks ago), Tsawwassen, and Bear Cove (Northern Expedition's Open House last year). I had a bunch more photos posted of Northern Expedition and Departure Bay Terminal, but Panoramio, or Google, only selected just a few to show up in Google Earth. They make the ultimate decision here, so not every picture you post will necessarily make it into Google Earth. And, I found out it takes about a week for them to show up. I've also posted photos of Orcas and various places I have been around the world. Most of them made it into Google Earth, so I am pleased with that. Here's the link to my Panoramio photos: www.panoramio.com/user/4173854And, of course, you can try to hunt for them in Google Earth.

Heck, I would be quite happy if Google extended its Street View to something called "Google Bridge View", where Google puts its panoramic camera assembly right over the bridge of a ferry and captures the entire voyage from dock to dock.

This highway in the North West Territories ends right in the middle of this little ferry: maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Strait+of+Georgia&ll=61.262971,-117.520065&spn=0,0.077162&t=h&z=14&layer=c&cbll=61.259338,-117.52789&panoid=i7tEpnfNeaO7rTTNB9JY5A&cbp=12,182.2,,0,10.21 And here's another: maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Strait+of+Georgia&ll=67.451883,-133.759813&spn=0,9.876709&t=h&z=7&layer=c&cbll=67.451883,-133.759813&panoid=B94zmnfwOKaOj9RSQLNZBg&cbp=12,22.8,,0,4.97

The second isn't at Inuvik, but rather it's near Arctic Red River, again, across the mighty McKenzie. On another note, The Google Streetview vehicles, crossed on th Albion Ferry before it was shut down.

In addition to Barnston Island, Duke Point, and Snug Cove which have been mentioned already, Google Street Vew also started shooting in Vesuvius while they were still on board the Howe Sound Queen.
It also starts on the ramp at Gabriola Island.
And at Langdale, it starts on board the Queen of Surrey.
