I'm going to be visiting the lower Sunshine Coast (ie. Sechelt and area) in the next while.
I'd like to find and photograph the ship R.J. Breadner (ex Albert J. Savoie). - does anyone know where it is located near Sechelt? I have read "Porpoise Bay Road", but is it close to a marina or sea-plane dock?
Also, I'd like to see if there are any historical items for the old Union Steamship days. ie. a plaque or marker at a wharf at Sechelt of Selma Park, or some other type of commemorative item to mark the history of the Union Steamships service to Sechelt and area.
Are there any other sites or spots of historical significance to the old days of the CP Coast-Service or Union Steamship ships?
Thanks. ps: is the Quillayute still running on the Jervis Inlet ferry route? ;D

When Scott and I went looking for her last year, it took a little while for us to pinpoint where she was. But we found her in the end, so here's how you get to where she is.
When you're heading North/West on Highway 101 (from Langdale), and you just arrive in Downtown Sechelt, you turn right at the set of lights where you would normally turn left to continue heading towards Earls Cove. The Porpoise Bay park signs will point you in the right direction, because that park is located in Sechelt Inlet. So the road you're now heading down is called Warf Rd, and eventually you'll come near a Marina. However, you'll actually be looking to turn right at the road called "East Porpoise Bay Rd". You should actually be able to see the Marina from this intersection. Start heading down East Porpoise Bay Road for a few minutes until you see a junkyard type of place, that according to Google Maps, is an Autopro. You should be able to see the AJ sitting alongside a barge there. Park your car on the dirt road that leads up to the barge, but keep an eye out for the vicious Rottwheilers that are loosely chained up in the junkyard. You should be ok though, we never really had much issue with the mutts. Another spot for good photos is just a short walk north of the Mountain Marine Transport base at a forest area. If you walk along side East Porpoise Bay road, you should be able to find beach access, and a bit of a trail leading down to the water. Careful on the trail though, it gets a little steep as you approach the water.
Hopefully this made some sort of sense to you, and is somewhat helpful. If you go on google earth or google maps in satellite view, you should be able to get a good idea of where this is.
Looking forward to seeing the photos!

Keep a sharp lookout on your left when you get on E. Porpoise because once you're by the water it's not very far along, if she's there. I posted some photos at that location, #47 in the 'Savoie thread.

I'm planning a trip to Vancouver Island and want to go via the Sunshine Coast. Since this is my first time and I don't know the actual driving times in between terminals, can someone please advise if the below schedule is feasible for a Saturday.
LV HSB 7:20AM AR LGD 8AM LV Earls Cove 10:25AM AR SB 11:15AM LV Westview 12:00PM AR LR 1:20PM
I'm concerned with making the 12PM sailing from Westview. Thanks

You should be able to make those connections without any real issue. However if that Island Sky is late by even 5-10 minutes, you can pretty much forget about being able to make that 12:00pm sailing. The next one is at like 5:00pm I think.

Thanks BC Ferries has often warned people not to depend on tight connections on the drive between Saltery Bay and Westview, and they're right. It's about 25 minutes, which leaves you 20 minutes to spare; chances are you're not going to drive off the Island Sky at its precise arrival time, and you need to be at Westview a few minutes early to buy your ticket. That's all assuming you get to Saltery Bay exactly on time. If your stars are all aligned perfectly, you'll make it... just.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going think it about it. Maybe plan my route so I'm going through the Sunshine Coast on my way back to Vancouver.

Ask someone on the IS to call ahead to Westview if they are running late. They often will hold the ferry in PR if they know ahead of time there are connections.
