The flagship theme for the month of February 2010 is of course Olympic.
- Either of the 2 ferries that were named Olympic. or - A picture with a ferry prominent, and with Olympic mountains or peninsula featured in a meaningful and breathtaking way (not just along for the ride).
Pictures should be ones that you've taken yourselves, or from postcards/photos that you own in your collection. No net trolling allowed.... ;D
Banner script needs to include the word "Olympic" in big font (not big-huge, but prominent enough so that people can get the point of the theme), or else it will be disqualified.
Banners saying "Olympics" or "February 2010" or "Vancouver 2010" will be disqualified. You can figure out what I'm getting at.... ;D
Limit of 3 nominations per person, please. Unless we have a shortage and need to call upon some people to submit more. We'll wait and see.
Nominations close at 5:00pm PDT on January 30, 2010.

I doubt I have any for this... unless you'll let us use photos with the mountains in the distant background, which you probably won't...

I am thinking that Mr. Fluge will be looking for 'Olympic' pics along the lines of this, my first submission... This photo was taken this past July 10th from Victoria's Ogden Point breakwater. It features not only the beauty of Washington State's Olympic Mountains, but it also honours the first of the Spaulding designed ferries - the now 50 year old M/V Coho.

Here's my three... I like that the word "Olympic" appears in 3 places, in this banner.

I think to make the quals it has to say 'Olympic Mountains' rather than 'Olympics;' the game is to avoid the plural.

I am assuming that these 'ferries' count? This photo was also taken July 10th from Victoria's Ogden Point breakwater. Adding to Flug's post, the IOC, or VANOC, or whoever it is seem to be really nit-picky about adding an 's' to the word Olympic, or using the 5 rings. There was a small pizza joint in Vancouver who had to change their name because of legal action put against them. NOTE: THIS MESSAGE WILL SELF-DESTRUCT (be deleted) ON WEDNESDAY We don't wanna be sued for mentioning the above information, do we? It is really not VANOC but the IOC. The IOC routinely defends the use of the word Olympics for commercial purposes. Every city/country that gets awarded the Games is also required to defend the trademark. You can imagine the contract for the Olympics fills binders and there are lots of requirements and responsibilities. Naturally having the Games in a city speeds up the recognition of the use of the trademark. But you often see some small business in some more out of the way location having to change their name. I would imagine they have trademark lawyers on retainer who on a routine basis check the business records of major centres to see about useage. Large corporations can even be more agressive than the IOC.

A reminder that nominations close at 5:00pm, this coming Saturday.
For the ballot (starts on Saturday night), we'll probably allow you to vote on your 2 favourite items, instead of the usual 3-favourites. So start narrowing down your favourites to 2......
