The order online trial on the Spirit class ended yesterday and isn't being continued. I used it four times I think, it was ... Fine. Kind of clunky to use: hard to actually find the order page, and the backend seem to hangup a lot. My orders were always ten minutes or more later than scheduled. And at least twice it felt like they sat the food somewhere for a bit because it wasn't as hot/fresh as my lineup experiences. All in all I enjoyed avoiding the line, but the experience was pretty lacking. Feel pretty indifferent to the end of the trial myself. I used it once, the food was cold and I still had to wait. I really don't see the big deal with having one simple line for hot food without reinventing the wheel. Happy to see it gone, honestly.

This summer most breakfasts were served on plates (on route 2 at least) as well as the chicken stir fry. What I miss are the ceramic coffee mugs in the cafeteria. It sounds silly but to me the coffee tastes better than when it's served in a disposable cup.

SeaWest Lounge is open on the SoBC today. First I've seen that since the before times.

I always really enjoy breakfast on the ferry... and I noticed today that, after a long absence, you once again have a choice of fried or scrambled eggs. When did that happen? The salsa for the fried potatoes seemed more bland, and a slightly different texture... I always ask for extra, but it wasn't as good. I know, first world problems. We have to count ourselves lucky when enough staff show up to man the sailing.

Queen of Surrey is using bamboo forks but washable dishes for everything else. I truly don’t understand the logic in this because you still need wash the other dishes including knives and spoons.

Going over to Departure Bay on the Coquitlam this morning I noticed they had some stainless steel forks, but most of them were bamboo. Coming back to HSB on the Surrey all the forks were bamboo. The crews on both sailings both said that there is a "fork shortage"....they keep ordering them but the suppliers simply don't have any in stock.

Not sure if you guys are going to believe me or not, or if you will find this funny or sad, but that shortage explanation isn't the whole truth.
The real reason why is b/c the rate at which passengers toss them into the garbage and/or steal them is faster than they can order them in.
smh....

Currently there is a new special burger on the menu, basically just a BC burger with additional bacon, onions, and maybe nothing else? Anyways, it's exceptionally delicious.

Currently there is a new special burger on the menu, basically just a BC burger with additional bacon, onions, and maybe nothing else? Anyways, it's exceptionally delicious. Another burger? I took my first route one sailing this year recently, on the Spirit of British Columbia, and I was really disappointed in the menu, having expected the busiest route in the system to be back to pre-Covid standards. There was only one non-burger entree (I don't count caesar salads); the gooey, salty, sugary Teriyaki chicken bowl, which is no healthier than the burgers. In the past, BC Ferries worked with restaurateur John Bishop and others to put actual food on the menu, and just before Covid you could at least get a slab of salmon with some steamed broccoli and rice... pretty boring, but not sky high in fat or salt. They still have a couple of soups, but given the passenger counts on route one, they need to do much better. I was also annoyed at how the route nine vessels are still serving breakfasts in those bloody boxes. What an unpleasant way to eat... and those ridiculous wooden 'knives' that don't actually cut anything. So, they're generating huge waste with single use boxes that probably can't be recycled because of the mess, but doing little environmentally friendly things like having wooden instead of plastic knives. Illogical. On a positive note... what a great day trip. The morning sailing to Saltspring, bus into Ganges where you have a couple of hours before another bus down to Fulford for the 3:50 sailing to Swartz, and the 5pm back to Tsawwassen. And since I'm ancient now, those three wonderful sailings are free, Monday to Thursday.

I took a round trip on the Coquitlam to Langdale today at 1730. All the stainless steel cutlery on that vessel is back...as of today the crew said. There are still some bamboo pieces available for those who choose to take their food "to go".

"We can't do the buffet but we can do something similar with a higher margin."
Okay.

"We can't do the buffet but we can do something similar with a higher margin." Okay. I also think still health and safety, people don’t use common sense when comes to keeping other people safe with food.

"We can't do the buffet but we can do something similar with a higher margin." Okay. hay! i think your use of quotes is a little misleading. i only realised your intention after reading the media release. i totally agree thats the true meaning after taking off the BS filter, but i initially thought your satire was the "Okay" comment. Somebody correct me, quotations are to directly capture what somebody else said ad verbatim?

"Put in fine dining staffed by ferries management. (No shortage there)." Truer words were never spoken.

I submitted my survey answers in regard to the re-purposing of the buffet space. I'd like to see a gourmet coffee operation with a wide variety of coffees, teas, smoothies, and desserts. Anyone else here have ideas?

Anyone else here have ideas? Maybe it could be Murchie's? Sounds like their kind of thing. Murchie's has several locations, why not on the ferries?

I think the original deluxe burger platter should be brought back (complete with the clear plastic cover) on the QoNW, and that she should be repainted in her original pastel blue and white livery - for a limited time, of course!
