Since it's near the date that BC Ferries is turning 50. I was thinking of saving a ferry in honor of the compaies history. I now that there was a previous thread but I think that if we work together we could save one.
I did my research and found that VMD built our first ferry and thought of one of there ships could be converted to become a museum or something. Three prime ships could be the Sidney, one of the V's or the Queen of Prince Rupert.
I asked a friend who is intrested and he thinks its a good idea. What do you think.
that reminds me, does anyone now or have a contact who owns the Queen of Sidney on the fraser river??

Do you REALLY think this is even CLOSE to being possible? Everyone enter the 6/49, quick... This would cost millions just to renovate at the rate of decay some of these older boats are facing...

Its possible if you believe, if its to late then build a copy.
First of all is the permenent location and then the cost to buy the ship. then get some construction company to move dirt around the ship and you have a grounded ship that is a building. People around can then help rebuild the rooms and exterior paint. Since we now that the sidney will not move we have our location. We can also have some help from the government if need be.
The Okanagan have a few examples of this and I don't know about the kalakala but its a similar idea.
I also have a friend who's willing to convert it into a restuarant. The only problem for me is who owns the sidney and contact of the owner.

This sort of thing has been discussed a countless number of times over the years on this forum. Take a good look though the Archives.
There's not enough interest and it's cost prohibitive. We have a Maritime Museum for a reason...
Sorry to be the bad cop but I'm gonna lock this...
