Theres a rumor going around here in Squamish that the huge outflow winds we've been having here blew Queen of the Islands onto shore. I don't think any damage was done. But shes back in the dock now where she has been for the past few months. She sure looks like shes part of BCF still with the Blue Line going down her side, and you can't even tell she has a restaurant inside and a hot tub on the deck. I don't think she is being used right now so I guess she's just there till she goes back up North.

Is Squamish her new winter home? If it is, that's a relief. She was always sitting down here off the Fort Langley Seaplane Base and she wasn't a very nice sight anymore.

I guess it is but I think they were trying it out with having her here, but I don't think it will be much longer because she's sitting in the location they want to put the Catamaran Ferry Dock that goes to Downtown Vancouver.

My dad has had some extreme distast for that particular part of the bid. he doesn;t think its viable. have 9 - 12 ships show up for the olympcs, and then afterwards.....dissapear....Harbourlynx may be part of the bidding process. but with only 1 ship right now, and possibly a second by the 4Q of this year. i doubt there will be that many ships in time

I thought I saw the Queen of the Islands docked in Squamish on my way home from Whistler on New Year's Eve.

I could see there being enough ships available, there are some kicking around Washington, it's the off season of the Clipper, Oregon has a few touristy ones as well that I'm sure if shown the money would be more than glad to sail for the Olympics.... and if HarbourLynx has a second ship it would only make sense they try and get one out, the publicity would be beyond awesome.

Now Ive heared the real story. She drifted off to the rocks just off of Woodfibre which is the pulp mill about 5kms from Squamish and a tug was sent out there to bring her back in and now when I drove by her on the highway today, she was pointed in the dock bow first instead of stern first.

okay I see; does it matter what the IOC wants? or can the Vancouver OC do whatever they want?

they can pretty much do what they wated. but it was a big part of the winning bid was the transporation setup. and well....it seems that they might not be able to make it happen. they might be able to grab a few...like HL plans to have 3 - 4 ships by 2010, and then Victoria Clipper can lend up The Clipper 4, and then WSF can lend the Chinook and Snohomish. brings the count up to 8. the IOC wants 10 - 12 doing a sailing every 3 minutes from the terminals

I think a high speed passenger ferry service, with high frequency, (every 60 minutes), in concert with a cruise ship style ferry (Britannia or maybe even the Q.P.R.) to Squamish in concert with direct Helijet service would do nicely for 2010.

I was reading in the local paper today, and on March 1 someone did a B&E on her. So I'm assuming she would be mangled up inside, and all of the valueable stuff is stolen like the TVs and stuff. What's wrong with people these days.

i dunno, people are crazy, anyone want the pics i took of the QOsydney while shes parked @ Silverdale? Is that her current location? The most recent pictures I've seen of her show her parked alongside the former WSF ferry San Mateo (which is in really bad shape). -- LB

yup that is the albet j. savoie docked next to her. Rainy Day Logging Company owns all three. the local paper here in town had a picture of the sidney being towed up river when she was brought to mission.
